Introductions - biking across the nation

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I live in wi, and am planning on biking across the us to the west, maybe to Washington or CA. I've been into biking but never long distances, the longest ive gone was about 40 miles, but im sure i could do a hell of a lot more, i plan on goin on the trip this summer.
Any tips or suggestions?:)

Chck in on the "Touring" forum. Should be lots of help there
Welcome.
Also, you might read some of the current and recent tours listed as separate parts of the touring section - especially David Waggenheim who is currently biking from Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego, and posted about 20 pictures just this week. He is now almost to Guatemala.
The American Lung Association of Washington (http://www.alaw.org/) is currently (http://www.alaw.org/support_alaw/big_ride_across_america/2003_progress/)(I think they're halfway across) holding their Big Ride Across America (http://www.alaw.org/support_alaw/big_ride_across_america/). Their webpage includes a Training and Fitness (http://www.alaw.org/support_alaw/big_ride_across_america/training_and_fitness.html) section which may provide some good tips.
