Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I searched this and didn't find it, so forgive me if it's a reposted question. We have a Falcon Cycles Merckx that wants a cottered-to-cotterless conversion. Is there a good cartridge substitution, or do we have to do something crazy like facing the threads on the fixed side, or having an uneven spindle length on either side?
Thanks -

You may want to check in Classic & Vintage for specifics on that bike, but in general the conversion from Cottered to Cotterless is painless.
I converted my old Sears 10 speed to cotterless by simply installing a Shimano cartridge BB.
The issue would be BB threading (French/Swiss/Italian/English threading) but other than that, I know of no specific issues... Someone in C&V would be able to tell you if there was anything else to look out for, especially on that specific bike.
