My sheppard/lab mix will tuck tail and run as fast as fast can to get away from the vacuum. But he can't stand to leave me alone with it so he darts back and forth through the room hiding behind chairs and whatnot, meanwhile the mini schnauzer could care less.

My dogs hate it too. I usually let them out to the back yard before I run the vacuum.

My shepard/beagle mix justs runs away from the vacuum. Maybe thats because I go to the source and just vacuum her:D

My dog would run from it, but if it got close to her, she would jump out, nip at it, then run back away.
mine growls and barks and then bites the vaccuam.

I understand- I hate the sound of vacuums and hair dryers. I cant stand being in the same room as one when in use.
With dogs, Id imagine the fans in a vacuum can generate some terrible sounds at high frequencies that
are very irritating to hear.

Mine doesn't freak out about the vacuum, but don't come near him with a broom. Total freak-out. Obviously he has issues- I bet he was beaten with a broom in his pre-adoption past, poor guy.

Not so much. I don't really find it funny to torment my dogs with fear who don't understand its really harmless.

Cats love the Roomba though. They chase it around the room.
had a cat that loved to be vacuumed, straight up, no attachments.

Our mini schnauzer and one of our cats could care less. The other cat runs and jumps on the top shelf of our closet and hides. Our standard poodle we had put down not long ago used to chase and pounce on the vacuum and would chase the cord. It's still kind of hard to vacuum without getting teary eyed.

- had a bulldog named Duke that love the vacuum... he would lunge at it, chomp down on the hose and shake it like crazy... (destroyed a Rainbow, if you know the model)...
- what was gross was that he was in love w/my briefcase and would never pass up the chance to show his affection (in a rapidly up-down movement with grasping front legs and paws, if you know what i mean)...
- worse however, was his snoring and gas... he snored so badly that we had to have two doors between him and the bedroom (i think he needed a doggie CPAP)...
- one time he was laying on my feet, cut a big one that stank so bad it woke him up from a deep sleep...
- and do you know what he did?
- stood up, gave me a glare that blamed *me*, and walked out of the room!
dirty dog!!!!
(i miss him)...

I'm sure mine was abused and almost sure someone tried to drown him.
Now I have to find out how my pair feel about vacuum cleaners.
Our dogs hate the vac, but the rats are enthralled by it.
Our big dog howls like a banshee when I break out the harmonica.

My buddy's dog does the exact same thing. Leaves the room cuz of her stench. Of course the rest of us leave the room as well.

How would you feel if vacuum cleaners were at head level?
My dog loves to vacuum, but he absolutely HATES dusting.

Mine is the opposite. But then again his body is like a big fluffy duster anyway, and he likes squirming around the room on his back like the goofball he is.

This one does the same thing--

It's a shame too, 'cause she could use a good vacuuming!

My Golden Retriever likes getting vacuumed. Handy, as Goldens are shedding machines.
We frequently dog-sit our friends' German Shepherd, and she loses it when I vacuum - she doesn't run away, her tail wags, yet she barks and bites the power nozzle. Then my dog starts in with the "I'm-barking-too-what're-we-barking-at?" barks. Comedy gold.

My brother and sister-in-law's dog hate the vacuum too! So much so, in fact, that if they ever want to cordon off an area of the house, they just put the vacuum cleaner on the perimeter, and he avoids the area. In fact, all it takes to get him to cower is a really, really bad imitation of a vacuum cleaner, like "vrooom".

My old dog would "sing" when I played the sax.
