Hey Tall Clydes,

If you've got a cool, large bicycle, and you want to show it off, post a photo of it on my flickr group at:

Hey Metal, how often do you polish up that Surly? That has got to be one of the best looking bikes I have seen in a while. Do you hang her over the mantel for storage? ;)

Okay- question.... that "singlespeed Pug" with the heavy tires- what is that, exactly? Does somebody sell that rig made up, or is that extra heavy tires put on conventional bike or what?

Surly Pugsley, I believe! Here's one in a multigear config

The frame is made by Surly, the frame is wider then usual, as is the fork and they have special rims, hubs are both 135mm (MTB rear hubs) and it fits a 4" wide tire. You can get more info from Surly's Website (http://www.surlybikes.com/pugsley.html).

Thanks, Wogster & Tom. I did a search on this (for "pug", not "pugsley", but all i came up with was Peugot stuff. Some cool bikes there.

I saw that Zinn cycle before and I was wondering why there is so much seatpost exposed. Why can't they build the frame higher?

From their website:
"On road frames, the seat tube is shortened, and the top tube is lowered to stiffen the main triangle. The head tube on Big and Tall Custom road frames is reinforced and extends 1-1/2" to 3-1/2" above the top tube, making the effective frame size taller than the seat tube length indicates to maintain sufficient handlebar stem height. This design feature increases the rigidity of these tall frames and eliminate high-speed shimmy problems while still allowing the seat and stem to be set as high as needed. By lowering the top tube, the vertical dimension of the frame's front and rear triangles is smaller, resulting in a stiffer frame that will not twist back and forth as easily. We also suggest sloping the top tube to gain even more of the benefits described above. An oversized seatpost (29.8mm on steel big frames and 28.6mm on titanium ones) delivers abundant rigidity with the shorter seat tube."

I'm not familiar with these bikes, was just reading the site.
