On a friend's loaner Colnago. He got it on ebay and it's a little big for him, so he got another bike for himself, and plans on ebaying this one. Am I doomed to lusting for this bike after I ride it? Will I ever build the Surly Cross check? Stay tuned for the answer to these questions and more...

All right, guys. I'm in trouble now. Rode 32 miles yesterday evening on that Colnago. That thing is so light, nimble and just fast. I felt like I was on the bicycle equivalent of a Ferrari. The chainstays on this bike are so short that the rear tire almost hits the seat tube. I'm used to stays in the 17.5 inch range, and these short ones really hooked up. I felt like every pedal stroke went directly into speed. The way this bike rolled, oh man. We got to the parking lot where we left the car and checked the computers, we'd averaged a bit over 20 mph! I couldn't believe it. My MTB is a Clydedale and this bike is Seabiscuit...
My buddy offered this bike to me last night, on terms, even, with no interest. I am in trouble...

Your 29r wouldn't happen to be a Russ Denny, would it?

Hmm..not many 29rs with Rohloffs that I've actually seen.

If a Colnago fits you, you love the ride, and the terms are good, I'd say go for it if you can afford it.

That's because you were on the bicycle equivalent of a Ferrari.

I'd say go for it even if you can't afford it. You obviously don't want to get into a position where you might not be able to come through on paying your friend (good way to lose a friend), but if it is a good deal and even a manageable financial stretch I doubt you'll regret it.
I ride an older (ca. '96), bright red (Ferrari red :^) with white paint and decals), steel Colnago (Superissimo? -- Columbus "Brain" tubing with Shimano 600 and Mavic CXP-30 rims). Best feeling bike I've ever been on. I've ridden it in criteriums and centuries, and frequently commute with it.
What year, model, and color are you looking at? What are the components like? And what is he asking for it?

Yup, Not sure if it was a Sunday morning or not, but you asked me for a pass on the final drop into the trailhead area.
I was with a group and several of us ogled over that bike.

Yeah, I remember you... cool. That was my first ride there in a loong time, and I had forgotten a lot about it, including how much I like it.
