So someone posted in the pirates thread about how zombies always lose. That got me thinking about all the zombie movies I've seen.
Except for 'Shawn of the Dead' I can't think of a zombie movie were the zombies lose. It seems like in all the others, while the main character(s) may survive, the zombies have pretty much wiped out everyone else, and the main character(s) aren't 'winning' but rather just surviving.
The closest other movie I could think of is 28 days later. While all the zombies are dying off at the end, they have already wiped out basically everyone in the UK, while they didn't spread past the island, I'd say in regards to the island it was definitely a British 0 : Zombies 1, kinda deal.
So can any foosters think of other movies where by the end the zombies have had their collective Heads chopped off?

Who won in Night of the Living Dead?
I got distracted by something and never saw the end of the movie.

Not a movie, but a clumsily written book.
*cliff notes* the zombie lost.

Resident Evil 3
Um, the zombies have wiped out every major population center on earth (and potentially every population center, except Alaska).
If thats not a win, your standards may be a bit to high.

Now that was an awesome book. And it's supposedly in production to be a movie.
How sweet will that be?

From what I recall, 3-4 of the main characters escape on a hellicopter, but the city is basically wiped out, and the plague is spreading into the surrounding area. It was then followed up with Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead where the plague appears to have spread everywhere.

Humans hadn't 'won' but did appear to have the upper hand and eradication was nigh IIRC

Well HEY - they die don't they?
So they do a little carnage as well ...

Awesome? The concept was interesting, the writing weak.
If it does become a movie, hopefully they'll hire some screenwriters who can actually write dialog.

Oh man, I found a list of the top 10 'zombie' movies, and Army of Darkness made #3.
While I love Bruce and Sam, AoD is not a zombie movie, it's an evil spirits possessing you movie. Also the evil things were capable of thinking independently, even if they were still focused on a sort of 'kill all humans' kinda theme.

Mother of God. Good bye rest of the day productivity.
Has anyone seen 'Dead and Breakfast'? I just remembered it now, and it's not quite zombies in their current cultural usage, but more so old style voodoo zombies (there is one 'man behind the curtain' controlling them all) fairly entertaining, and at least one or two of the heros not only survives, but manages to wipe out the growing infestation.

Zombies always win because they don't follow the rules of nature. That's what always bugged me if Zombies don't eat they don't starve to death.

Depends on the movie, like stacy said, they are dieing at the end of 28 Days Later, probably due to starvation.
In other movies/books they will also decay at a near normal rate, which will slow them down further/effect eye sight/etc over time, until eventually they just fall apart.

I guess you havent seen 28 Weeks Later?
SPOILER
People can carry the 'Rage/Zombie' Virus and not be affected, but can still pass it on.
I'm anxiously waiting 28 Months Later - the ending shot of 28 Weeks Later has the zombies running through the Chunnel (Channel Tunnel) and appearing in Paris - woot woot for Zombies eating Frenchies!
World War Z was a good book too, i must say. Did you read his Zombie Survival Guide?

I haven't seen it yet, but it's in my blockbuster Queue, apparently it's very love or hate from the reviews I just checked out on IMDB. Although if they're actually going to come thru the Chunnel at the end, then that makes me think bad things about the rest of the movie.

I thought 28 Weeks Later was probably better then the first one. Dont want to say anything more about it, but you should definitely rent it in either case. I bought it on DVD - my GF thinks its scarier then the first one too.

So I've been thinking about this one since Tude posted it.
I don't think I'd call Resident Evil 3 a zombie movie. While a zombie apocalypse is the back drop of the movie, the movie itself is about the main character and her interactions with other humans, first the crazy family, then the caravan, and the main villain in the movie, the Umbrella corporation. The zombies when in the movie, were either a quick aside for an easy thrill, or a tool being used by the bad guys (the crazy family or the Umbrella corp) but at no point did they represent the main protagonists.
nada. good to see you post. any thoughts on Zomppies?

True. But it all depends on how you define a zombie movie. For me, if they're in it, it's a zombie movie. :)
