Bicycle Mechanics - knowledge

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been riding a cycle for years but just recently I've started fiddling around with the ride. Decided those "pro" mechanics were a bit too pricey for my taste. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone new of a place where I could find some handbooks on mechanics...or even if anyone knew of any courses I could take up in Canada. Anything would be helpfull...

Beasty96,
Not sure about Canada, but try www.bikeschool.com. (http://www.bikeschool.com.)
Personally, I'm a Mechanical Engineer by study and training and I've always built up most of my own bikes as well as wheels. I don't trust someone elses hands on my machines. It's all easy, if you need some tips or advice, just e-mail me.

There are alot of good books at the library and at the book store that can teach you alot about bike mechanics. I am sure also that if you have a technical question to ask this bike forum will give you some answers. Working on a bike is not that hard and it is enjoyable when you work on your own and get it running the way you wan't, not the way a guy in a bike store thinks that you would like it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've already tried the library, they seem to be more into cycling from the 50's intstead of now. And I've been to bikeschool.com but I think I'd rather stick to a canadian school....just comparing our dollar to yours. I was wondering if you've ever heard of any, maybe, technical manuals out there from maybe shimano or any of the other top hosses of the bicycling industry?
