So I am into week #3 riding my newly built SS.
Until the day before yesterday, the chain was dead silent. In fact the entire drivetrain was silent and quite a magical thing. But then it started talking to me a little bit so I did what anyone with a formerly silent drivetrain would do: I cleaned the chain and re-lubed it.
It's still not silent. But it's not noisy, just not quite as silent as it was when new.
Chain is SRAM PC69 and lube is Maxima Chain Wax. I applied the Maxima Chain Wax right on top of the assy lube or cosmoline or whatever was on the chain when it was new. The rear cog is a "conversion" cog from a Forte (Performance bike) SS conversion kit (steel, chrome) and the front chainring is a Race Face 44T "big ring" from an MTB crank set (ramps pins etc.). Chainline is adjusted dead-on straight.
What must I do to regain the silence?
Will it hurt anything to put some kind of lightweight oil or drip lube into the chain on top of the Maxima?
I'm not really concerned about wear just that sweet silence.
