Road Cycling - who to write about rude drivers...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

who do you all recommend i contact to demand to make drivers more aware of cyclists' rights to the road... i live in a pretty small city and a lot of people over here do not know about cyclists' rights to the road... it's kinda scary since i know that those study booklets you have to read through to take your driver's license test mentions about bicycles... i took that test 8 years ago and i still remember it... what does that say about the US system for testing... >=[ ...

If the town is small, you might try a city council meeting, or the county equivalent. Be prepared to be publicly opposed in your views.

A well-written letter to the editor of your local paper will do nicely.

I think one place (although not the only place) one might write to or speak with is the driving schools and/or head of the driver's ed program at the local public school system. Teach them while they're young. Additionally, many teenagers first learning how to drive were/are probably still cycling and can often relate better to the concepts of automobile-bicycle interactions.

I like all of the suggestions posted above.

It depends what the drivers are doing. If it's just verbal abuse I ignore it. If it's anything more than that I generally go straight to the cops. I've tried communicating with motoring primates around here and found it to be a complete waste of time.
