OK, so it's only a little road rash on my leg. But still, that counts! :)

Tonight I rode a trail I was unfamiliar with, but one that I knew had some nice technical stuff to challenge me. About 2.8 miles into my ride I noticed a gigantic tree had fallen across the path. The trunk was at least 6 feet thick so there was no ay I was going over. :) I quickly scanned the trail and I saw only one realistic line I could take: Around the sucker.

As I approched my chosen path I had to quickly pull a wheelie to navigate over a stray root that was blocking my path. No problem, just an average 4" high obstacle to clear. Piece o' cake.

Until later...

I was on my return trip when I came across the fallen tree again. By now I had already gone many miles and I was really tired. A few climbs on the way back had me near bonking. When I approched the 4" root I popped the front tire up OK, but I didn't have enough juice to get the rear wheel over. When the rear wheel hit the root it stopped dead, shifting all of my weight to the front of the bike. I slammed the pedals to get the rear wheel over but I went over the root at a weird angle and came down sideways. Ouch!

I'm not hurt bad, and the bike is fine. It could have been much worse. I *really* do need to perfect my trackstand and other techniques. But typical me, I keep pushing myself over my limits. That's OK, I learn everything this way - Trial By Fire BABY!!

permanent scarring? I've gotten that from just falling off my peddle infront of my house. I was wearing crappy biking shoes. I also have some permanent scars from a few months back going off of a 3.5/4 footer and wearing the same crappy shoes and digging my peddle into my knee.

I think i should get some shin pads...
