Bicycle Mechanics - Bike Building Help (Trek 1000 Frame)

I recently got a 2004 Trek 1000 frame, wheels, seat post, and brakes from a friend for free and want to build it up. I was already thinking of buying a used 1000 but now I just need to get the components. How can I build this bike on a $400-$500 budget?

They are pretty good, just make sure they are compatible with your wheels.

I doubt the original poster has campy wheels. If he can build a wheel though, the group comes with new hubs he can rebuild the rear wheel onto the the new hub.

yeah i'm relatively new to cycling actually...i don't need something amazing, just something either on par or a little better than the original components for the bike

well the original components on a trek 1000 are pretty marginal, mostly Shimano sora with tiagra RD. Except for the freehub compatability problem, I'd think the mirage build kit is great. If you want to stick to shimano I'd get a 105 kit. Maybee an old 9 speed groupo would be good with an isis crankset, I don't trust octalink parts to be available in the future.

the wheels i have came with the trek so a campy set wouldn't work i guess...tell me more about this mirage build kit though...
