:(:(:(
The East County SD fire near Ramona is up to 3000 acres and growing. The smoke is getting to be fairly bad in La Jolla, over 40 miles to the west

We may end up having a Burnt Pie Ride in November :(

I feel so badly for the people whose homes and businesses are threatened and all the little animals. :( I hate when this happens out here and it seems to be happening so much. I thought everything that could be burnt was gone over the last few years of fires.

I was on Shelter Island an hour ago and the smoke was so bad I could barely see downtown.

Yup, there's a huge smokey haze from the fire all the way ESE to the coast and beyond. :( Evidently, this area was untouched by the big fires four years ago, so there's plenty to burn in that area.

I'm up in Orange, and can see flames from my place of the Irvine area fire.

Gotta love SoCal, huh?

The inside of my apartment smells of smoke, and I'm nowhere near any of the many fires in SD county that are burning with 0% containment. Hope those of you who are further east in the county are okay.

How is it where you're at? People in Rancho Bernardo got evacuated. That's in between us. People losing homes. :(

my work is covered in smoke so they closed the office today. We're packing up right now in case we get the call.

I live in UTC and the sun's pretty orange from the smoke. Area north of SR-56 and east of I-5 are being evacuated (http://www.10news.com/news/14388572/detail.html). That's an area where a lot of ppl are moving to/living in these days.

I'm home from work. A fine ash definitely is falling from the sky around UTC/La Jolla. Not a huge amount, but definitely some falling. Our institute is closed. Not just optional work, as during the Cedar Fire four years ago. Closed as in go home unless you have to be in for a few minutes to shut down any experiments in progress. Only security is to stay around. My prof demanded we all go home, even if we were in just for paperwork.

Same here. My company is asking everyone to work from home. The ambient light at home is quite orange; like in a sunset.

I didn't go to work today, but from what I was told it is fairly smoky at work (Mira Mesa; just 1 freeway exit north).

I have no clue what to do today. Just sit around, I guess.

If you were hard core you'd do some Mt. Soledad repeats. What's a little smoke?

My parents live in PQ. Dad and the cat had to evacuate. Mom is visiting relatives in Illinois, and going a little batty. I have friends in Poway, RB, Escondido, San Marcos and Ramona that also evacuated. It is tough living 120 miles away. Not much work is getting done at my desk today...

And BF is having problems....

How's Scripps Poway area? My friend with 2 kids are coming over to my place. The smokes are getting a little bit too much for the little kids.

It's not that bad in Scripps where I'm at. Some people in the neighborhood left, but there aren't any huge dark clouds of smoke. I still see blue if I look straight up. A bit of hazy smoke above the hills.

That's good to hear, Mark. But I am watching CNN, and from the news coverage, it just does not look good at all. I'm lucky I was able to get out of SoCal last night when we did.

We're keeping an eye out. Have all the bikes loaded. :) I'm up against the south side of the hills which are south of Sycamore Canyon. They've evacuated Wildcat canyon down to Willow which is a couple miles from me. I drove up around in Eucalyptus Hills and didn't see anything that got me worried. Looks like it's mostly north of Espola still. In 2003 it burned up to the ridge behind my house. We'll see, have the tv on, and the radios tuned to the Otay repeater.

Sounds like a good idea.

I had CNN on in the background, and they suggested posting onto cnn's website, to let loved ones know they are okay. I immediately emailed my sister letting her know I made it home okay.

They just evac'd eastern Esco, from Lake Wolford to Bear Valley.....I'm about 3 miles from that area of Esco. The in law's house in 4S Ranch was untouched, the fire went north above them by about 1 mile if that. Still a long ways away from the end.

Mark is evacuating. At this point the fire isn't very close to Scripps Ranch so hopefully his place will be OK.

did it go east from 15 towards the wild animal park? That' pretty scary since he is sorta tucked back in there.... :(

Same results as when I tried earlier on my cell phone. (Tried on land line this time.) Can't get through. Not surprising as cell phone usage is sky high right now.

I believe it came down that valley, hugging the Highland Valley Side. It burned under the 15 where Lake Hodges is, where that valley dumps out into. Yah he's tucked back there in the hill pretty good. Wild Animal park is OK so that side has not been burned yet as I know off, which is on the same side he is on.
