This is officially the most caring group of people on the internet! After an email from Tom, and a phone call from Solveg, I decided I should check in and say hi.

Really, there's not much to say, which is the main reason I've been off the forum lately. Everything's fine, I just think I just got a little burned out from pushing myself so hard this summer, and I've backed WAY off. Basically only riding when I feel like it, and only for as far as it feels good (and that's not very far!). Still eating right, still walking regularly, losing weight slowly... have let strength training workouts slide for a few weeks and am starting to be able to tell, so will start doing those again soon.

Already looking forward to my 2nd cycling season... :)

Glad to hear your doing okay, keep up the good work, and remember, cycling is supposed to be fun:)

Yeah, at some point self discipline should give way to fun. The bike shouldn't be a means to losing weight, but a source of pleasure.

Also I find that sometimes it's good to take a week or two off and do other things.

I tend to juggle biking and writing music. I suppose I'll get more songs finished int he winter.

Becky, great to hear from you!

Hey Becky,

Hard to believe you and I were both in Little Rock a couple weeks ago and never connected. Next time you in LR, make sure an go to Damn Good Pies. Stellar Pizza, and I'm a Clyde...I know good Pie;)

As soon as the whitewater starts flowing again, I will be doing a lot of bouncin around in NW Ark. Let's try to connect. Oh, you're right. This is a great group.

See ya,
Jay

Becky,
I pushed my self really hard post surgery, work this month has been a beast and last week I strained my back lifting weights. I have only been on my bikes a short time all month. Sometimes it nice to take a break and just get you juices flowing again. It is suppose to fun and not work and it started feeling like work to me. I started to feel pressure to hit my goal I set for myself at the beginning of the year and I think I have finally realized it's not going to happen.

Now I plan to just ride and enjoy the refreshing cooler air and if I hit it, I hit, if not, better luck next year. :D

Cheers to you

I was wondering where you were - good to hear from you!

Hi Becky,

I'd never have even considered cycling without my husband's encouragement, BUT I agree wholeheartedly with you about this forum. I have just started and have only done four rides up to now but that's probably four more than I would have done by now had it not been for the support of this forum.

You guys made me realise that it is possible to "do the thing you cannot do"!

Never underestimate the influence you all have. :)

I hope you can get the same experience I had. I was in about your shoes and had backed off when a friend who was impressed with "my progress" asked me to help her ride a bike. She was going on a vacation with a friend (who biked) and wanted to do a 20 mile bike tour of some wineries in California.

It was "my job" to get her into biking shape enough for a 20 mile ride in about 6 weeks. So for this effort I started biking with her nearly EVERY day. And although it helped her in the quest she wanted, it helped me even more. I found that biking that much (forcing myself) started to give me "the bug" so that I started to want it every day.

Granted I still go on and off now.....but for the most part I find that I can "find" that bug again without as much trouble as I had in the beginning.

My wish is for you to experience this too. Where's Jiminey Cricket when you need him. :)

Good to hear from you.

It could be just a little depression from the Razorbacks. Take your bike and ride down to the campus and beat the heck out of Coach Nutt. I am sure you will feel much better afterwards. I will anyway.

Glad all is well.

If you're not going to ride for a while could I borrow your wheels so I can? Kthaxbai!

You'd break them! And I just got them fixed! ;)

Also, KT, interesting that you said that. A friend/client of mine said she wants to start cycling, and wants to ride with me. But having no particular goal, and it being cold, windy, and wet outside... neither of us is too excited about actually riding! But I think I'll make a mental note to give her a call on the next warm/sunny day we have, and then maybe set up some regular rides.

b_young: razorbacks? is that a football team or something? Maybe that's why my neighborhood gets so quiet on saturday afternoons.... ;)

jboyd: drop me an email next time you're up here :)

jaxgatr and tom: glad you're both feeling better!

And thanks everyone for the supportive words. After deciding not to ride for training anymore for a while, I did go for a short ride, and enjoyed it much more than I have been lately. Nice to take time to stop and smell the roses, so to speak.

Becky, great to hear from you!

Cool - another writer.

Ummm...since I started cycling I haven't written a lick. Guess I've been a little obsessed? I'm really starting to miss writing though. I'm going to have to start setting up the writing appointments again (even if they are just with myself). Now...how to do that and not give up cycling time...

hmmm....

I will find a way!

:D

Sounds like you are still making progress Becky. Keep it up!

Hang in there Becky. It will all come back to you when you're ready. Glad to see you back in the forums.
