Hey, Any of you Charlotte or Union County forumites hear about a deadly accident at 521 and Steele Hill Road today? Something about a group of riders being hit. Sorry I don't know anymore, details were lacking, maybe just a rumor, I hope!

It was the group of riders that had Lee Ann Berry, she was riding across the country to raise awareness for Brain Injury Victims. There appears to have been at least one fatality. No other details are available.
Lee Ann was killed and a rider from Columbia SC died as well.:(
I hadn't heard of the ride previously. Very sad to hear.
Here is an article on the accident:

Very sad, is there any investigation of the accident?
I just received this e-mail:

Attention friends of Lee Anne Barry and Tom Hoskins and all
Charlotteans who ride a bicycle.
In a tragic circumstance, Lee Anne Barry was killed finishing her
fourth continental crossing. Her family and I am asking that we all
in this community and region honor her by riding the last leg for her.
On Wednesday, there will be a formal ride to the Church service in
her honor, beginning at the Barry home at 121 Lester Davis Rd. There
is a large area for parking at their home and the ride to the Church
at Charlotte 2500 Carmel Road will begin at 11 am and will arrive for
services set to begin at 1pm.
For others, we request that you ride your bicycle to the services at
the Church at Charlotte 2500 Carmel Road from wherever you are to
arrive for those services that are set to begin at 1pm Wednesday.
Good places to park and join in include: Stonecrest, Calvary Baptist
Church, and the shopping center at Rea and Colony.
Whichever you choose please be safe, wear a helmet and remember Lee
Anne Barry and Tom Hoskins, two wonderful examples of human beings
who are no longer with us.
My list is limited and am missing some important folks, PLEASE
FORWARD TO ALL YOU KNOW.
Sincerely,
Terry Lansdell

There were specific addresses included with the e-mail. I wasn't sure if I should post those on an open forum or not. If you are interested in joining the ride and need the addresses, please PM me and I will share.
This is just so incredibly sad. My heart goes out the families and loved ones of the two that were killed.

According to this (http://www.topix.net/forum/source/wltx/T51TISNS51SOPSLD8) report, the SC Highway Patrol is investigating, but has not made any comments yet.
Very sad, is there any investigation of the accident?
similar to Lee Anne's tribute ride, a ride will be held in Columbia tomorrow to Tom's funeral as well:
"For those that have not heard, Tom's funeral will be tommorrow @2 at
Trenholm Baptist Church. A ride will leave from Outspokin @1 and go to
the Church. "
