Bicycle Mechanics - Older Schwinn Tandems

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I picked up an older Schwinn Tandem bike that needs a some TLC to get it into riding shape. I don't want to dump a bunch of cash, just make a functional & reliable bike. I'm looking for a few parts and don't know where to look beyond ebay and craigs list. Any ideas?
What parts are you looking for?
There is a tandem forum down lower under T.

Interesting photos.
Did the seller represent this bike as a Schwinn? Are there any markings (serial numbers, decals) of any kind on it?
That's an..............."interesting"..................looking tandem.

The guy I got it from pulled it from a dump in NE CA. It has Schwinn grips on it and a local bike shop says it's a Schwinn. The stamped number off the left rear is K826143.
it's looks cobbled together. the stays may be schwinn, as well as the bar and stems, but that's about it. schwinn didn't use lugs on the Town & Countrys or the Twinns, and I've haven't seen any with a twin boom tube. Fork could be from old schwinn world. An LBS would be good start, as it's a bit hard to assess whatall you need from photos. wheels of matching size, front brake, and a tension for the timing chain would starters.

Ryan, my dad went to work for Arnold, Schwinn & Co. when I was eleven years old, and I've spent much of my adult life (I'm 65) immersed in Schwinn culture and products. Your rescued dump bike appears to be a frankenbike with some Schwinn bits and pieces, but it isn't and never was a Schwinn built tandem. Sorry.
That's not to say it couldn't be made into a rideable bike, and you'd be riding something unique!

Very unique frame design with the side-by-side boob tube, unusual stoker stem setup and the curved tubing for rear compartment. But a Schwinn? Really doubt it!
Looks like someone may have cobbled up a mix of components and Schwinn grips do not make it a Schwinn.
