So I was riding down PCH towards Seal Beach from Irvine and passed a group of riders who were riding with a guy on a scooter who was giving them instructions or something. They were going pretty slow, only reason I passed them. I have seen them before couple times. They usually ride in the morning. Just curious if anyone know what is that all about?

They might have been out motorpacing, and were either just starting, finishing, or taking a break.
Motorpacing is a great way to develop speed and endurance at speed, but it can take a lot of practice and very skilled moto driver. I do a lot of motorpacing, but mostly on the track.

Maybe... They just didn't look like motorpacing kind of people.
Speaking of motor pacing. I was riding on PCH on Friday and this guy on a scooter passed me. I caught up to him at the light and thought I would draft off of him. That was fun. I was going 27mph while in zone 1! After I got bored, and tired of smelling his exhaust, used him to practice sprinting. :D
Hi,
Hate to say it but that sounds like my club. :o There was a large group out yesterday that went south to "practice" for our fall Amtrak century next week. We have a lot of new club members doing the ride so some of our more experienced riders were working with the new members on group riding skills.
The guy on the scooter is a former Club President who now has a bad knee. His wife races in the Masters and he got the scooter so that he could still "ride" with her. That evolved into becoming our official, unofficial SAG on our Saturday ride (LB to the south end of HB and back). NOw he SAGs most of our group rides. He has fun doing it but I worry about him because regularly he will be in the middle of the right-hand lane moving at our speed. I keep hoping that someone doesn't hit him.

We did a diabetes century on our tandem a while back. We were heading form Perris to Winchester (? I forget the road). The organizers had Honda Goldwing type motorcycles, 2 riders on each, monitoring the riders. I believe they were some radio club. We were heading towards a detour so a motorcycle pulled up alongside us to give us the new directions. It was cool cause we were flying down the hwy at about 25 while they were riding next to us. Felt like we were in a scene from the TDF videos!:D

Oh heck now I feel somewhat bad. Should have said hi, instead of doing the usual snobbie roadie thing.
