I am currently on a solo weekend bike trip along Lake Michigan. Last night there were severe thunderstorms. I had loaded my bike in the car & duffle bag of clothes. The storm took a couple of hours brewing, high winds, etc. Then the rain started pouring. The wind blew my Coleman dome tent flat with me inside. I tried to hold the tent up. Then I heard a splitting sound. A tree fell about 3 feet from my tent. I know my mother has been praying again. Today, I drove about 100 miles south, they are still predicting isolated thunderstorms. I don't think I'll ride. I'm just a little bit scared. Today is a day to lay on the beach. About a month ago, 7 people drowned in under 3 feet of water because of a rip tide. The water looked calm after a storm. Seems like the same scenerio.

Hello outashape. Glad to hear you are ok. My wife and I are heading up to our cottage in Evart this morning. My wife will be doing some R&R after her operation and I hope to get some riding in along Lake Michigan and the surrounding area. Hope the storms have passed.

Have a nice vacation and make sure you take good care of your sweetie. Are you going to be up there on the holiday weekend? DALMAC is probably going up your way. I rode from E. Lansing to Weidman & back last week. Wed of this week, I rode from Benzonia to Ludington following the route from Shoreline West of the LMB.org. There is a killer hill at Arcadia bluffs. I have a copy of Shoreline West, Bowtie and DALMAC 5 day (year 2000) route. If you want copies, let me know. I'll be going on the DALMAC 4 Day QUAD. My husband will be sagging for me as he only rides 20-30 miles at a time. Peloton a BF member will be on one of the DALMAC rides. There is the 4 day East, 4 day West, 5 day West and the QUAD Century. You will be able to ride across the Mackinaw Bridge on Sunday at 1, 3, and 5 o'clock. I'm excited. Anyways, don't know which rides, but seems like one of them will be going your way. I remember the cities of Lake George and McBain.

Hey Outashape sounds like u r getting more adventurous, your story reminds me of a trip i took from Mackinaw City down the coast of Lake Michigan through Petoskey and Traverse City then to Interlochen, was hit by a huge storm after breaking camp, had to pull off the rode into a barn and wait the storm out. It was raining so hard that i could not see the rode and i am sure the truck drivers couldn't see me. Safety first always. Good luck. Itís the adventure that counts.

oh just my inattention to where i was going, or, excess attention being paid to some strange action going on to my rear derailleur.

Just got back from vacation. You were right, the Dalmac riders came right through Evart. I was just going in town and turned down 80th and all I could see for miles was rider after rider. My arm got tired waving to each one as I passed them in the opposite direction. Really wished I was riding with them. My wife is doing better, the week at the cottage gave her a good rest.

DALMAC was a blast! Trailered my American Eskimo Cooper with me for 3 of the 5 days - wife took him in the van the other two. We had a few issues with him being over excited I think, and barking a bit more than I (and some of the other riders) could bear. We did the 5 day 329 mile route - great weather other than the thunder storm Thursday night / Friday morning. Photo attached!!!

Peloton, I read somewhere you were going to be on the ride. At Mackinaw High School, I talked to Vicki from the Ann Arbor Bike Club. She mentioned that she met you and Cooper. Vicki or her husband, Frank were riding with Hadie. I got in too late on the last day, about 3:15--and you had already left. Oh well this is the second ride where we did not see each other and it really shouldn't be that difficult when you have Cooper with you.
Fleetwood, I thought about you when we came through the rolling hills of Evart.

Glad you liked the rolling hills in Evart. We have a cottage north of town and love to ride 90th into town for breakfast. You came up 80th on the blacktop on the rolling hills. 90th runs parallel and is hard packed dirt with more ups and downs, doesn't seem like much when your in a car but turns in to a pretty good workout on the bike.

outashape, we did indeed see Frank, Vicki and Hadie on the trip, set up camp very close to them the first night in Mt Pleasant. On Sunday, we arrived at Mackinaw City High School shortly after noon, but didn't leave for home until 3:15 ish - just after the 3:00 bridge crossing group left the parking lot.
I've done the Quad route the past few years - I really think I enjoyed the 5 day route this year more - seemed to be a more relaxed atmosphere, both on the road and off.
Still looking at doing a couple more organized rides this year.... maybe Blue Water Ramble, and will make some modifications to Cooper's trailer soon as well.
