Cyclocross Racing - UCI course layouts?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Why is everyone sticking with the UCI minimum number of barriers (1 set of 2 barriers)? Cross racing doesn't seem to be as much fun this year. I want more running  (hating on euro-cross whine whine whine)
Not here...I could do with a little less running and a few more straightaways.
3 sets of barriers this weekend, plus sand, plus a steep. it's gonna bite

Race here this past weekend had 6-8 forced dismounts depending on yer skills. At least 6 even for the elite men.
The designers at this years St Louis Bubba series seem to be throwing in more pavement with only one set of two barriers. Can't say I mind. As long as there is much more grass and dirt than pavement. Plus the pavement has tricky sections like 180's, which create interesting challenges in choosing tire pressure, eg. one guy rolled his Tufo tubie clinchers off the rim. I think it's made for better courses and faster racing.
per UCI rule 5.1.024 only 1 set of barriers (planks) is allowed. USA Cycling rule 5A10 says the same thing.
Non-UCI races may have up to 2 additional sets of barriers per USA Cycling rule 5A11.

thanks for the clarification; I know that a few years ago I was in a race with at least four sets of barriers.
grrr, why does UCI think that one's a good idea? (hate hate hate hate hate).

Since the Cross Crusade in Portland is Independant, they do their own thing. This week at Rainier HS there was run-ups, sand, mud, fast single track and steep paved road with no barriers. Last week a two pack. At Alpenrose I remember a triple? BUT Many times the dreaded 6 pack. It was Bunny Hopped ( All 6 ! ) by a rider at the State Championships.

Are you talking about the Team MACK rider during Bubba 1?
