Introductions - Budding cylce commuter outside Boston

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My introduction: I am getting into cycling, I have a hybrid and a LeMonde road bike. I live about 26 miles from my office (Marblehead-Waltham). I am currently obesssesing with starting to commute on the bike next spring and am looking to spend the winter getting in good enough shape to make the ride regularly. TOward that end I have decided that I need a single speed bike to bomb around on during the winter. Researching this idea has repeatedly brought me back to this forum. I felt compelled to join. Bob

Hello Bob, there are a number of folks here who do some long commutes (Cyclaholic springs instantly to mind), so it can be done!
Just remember to keep us informed on your progress, we like to hear success stories :) .
Welcome to BF!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I was wondering if anyone has any resources on planning routes? I have been working with Google maps to roughly figure out streets which I have been following up with actual recon but I am wondering about bike paths and bike friendlier streets etc. I did not know if there were sites or mapping resources avilable that could help in this regard.

You may want to check with the folks local to you. There are forums, here in the Community Connections bit, for various regions. They may be able to help you.
