Hello all.
I'm building up a new bike, have everything except the stem. Look like I'm going to need 75-80mm stem, for a 1 1/8" fork and 26.0mm handlebar.
The fork has a carbon steerer (ouzo pro) and the bar is carbon too (kestrel ems pro). So I'd like something that's open face and won't cause problems with either.
Does anyone know of anything that's reasonably priced (<$120), decent weight, and can get in such a short length?
Thanks,
D
That's a mighty short stem. I have a 90mm and I think it may be too short. The bike gets a little twitchy at times. I started out with a 120mmm but felt it was too long so I dropped it back to a 90mm. Now I'm thinking of going to a 100mm. I've been using ITM Big One OpenAS stems. The Easton EA-70 stem also looks nice and I'm thinking I might go with that. You want something that has an offset notch for the clamp so you don't create a stress riser in the steerer. The FSA stems look pretty slick too but they're made for oversize bars only. You can however use a shim. I've never used a shim for carbon bars so I'm not sure if it's even recommended. Anyone care to comment?

Yes it is very short. Maybe I should start with something longer like 90-100. It's a frame I'm building up and according to wrenchscience.com i should have like a 74mm stem, talk about twity steering! (that's just based upon the top tube length of my frame minus their recommended reach)

I have a Look carbon stem that I bought off e-bay. It looks great and I have no complaints about it. I think I have seen them as short as 90mm.
