I've called a bunch of bike shops in south and southeast Louisiana this morning asking about fixed-gear bikes. The Spokesman in Mandeville, LA has an '08 Langster in stock, and that's all I've been able to come up with. A few shops offered to order a bike and sell it to me at MSRP, a few were confused, and one couldn't be convinced I wasn't talking about a cruiser (he offered me this (http://www.fujibikes.com/2007/bikes.asp?id=349&subcat=2)). I'm still waiting to get a call back from a shop that needs to check to see what brands of bikes they carry, but they're pretty sure Schwinn is one of them. They promised a call back by late tomorrow.
I'm sorry, this is turning into a rant. Does anyone know of a bike shop in or east of Lafayette, LA and west of the Mississippi/Louisiana state line that might carry and/or service fixed-gear bikes regularly? This includes Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans.

Are you needing to ride one before you buy? If not, why not order one from the web? Most shop won't know about anything fixed gear bikes, they just don't get that many requests for that type of bike.

That's insane!
Have you tried these guys: http://bicycleshop.com/
They're by LSU on Highland close to Chimes st.
I haven't been there in ages but they used to know their stuff. I don't know if they still do but they probably at least know what brands they carry :roflmao:

There is also http://www.capitolcyclery.com/
I bought a MTB from them 10 years ago and they seem to have a pretty good selection and knowledgeable staff back then. Too bad The Bicycle Source is no longer around. They really knew their stuff.

I've never been there but I saw their add in the phone book and from their website it looks like they might be able to help you out. There are no good shops around Southeastern?
Edit: a further look at their website shows that they probably couldn't help you. Looks like a BMX manufacturer.

There are no shops in this city. None at all. I'm close enough to the campus to get their wifi when the sun spots are right and Jupiter is ascendant. There are bikes everywhere, and most are made by Next.

Looking back, I think their main line is bike rentals, followed by ice cream, followed by their cafe, followed by coffee, followed by bikes. I stopped in, and their whole inventory is comprised of two styles of Schwinn cruisers. Everything else needs to be ordered. I don't recall seeing any helmets, apparel, accessories, or anything of the sort. To be fair, the person I spoke with may have been an employee of the cafe.
The toasted PB&J on rye I had was a B+, so they're not that bad.
