Note that we are proposing lunch in Baldy village, separate from OCW's plans. I think we should just stick to our schedule and go at it. But I'm cool with whatever mateo decides.
This is true, we usually stop at the Carl's in Pomona, but we usually don't stop for long.
We're thinking of meeting at 6:00am for a 6:30 roll out. I'd add that a 15-minute window between arrival and roll time is too short for this rag-tag group (myself included!).
I hear ya there;)
I think there's a good chance the OCW group will catch us, no matter how early we leave. So, the rides may converge with no planning necessary. That said, do you want to propose a convenient regroup point?
This route is so urban I doubt we would catch you before GMR, unless you do some ultra-posing at the rest stops:D

I'm outa the century ride, I have to be home by 5 and that would be pushing it for me. I'll join the Baldy lite ride and see you all somewhere on the mountain:o
I'm out. I'm in no shape to ride a hilly century. I'll probably just climb Baldy solo and aim to join you guys at lunch.

i might do this...but i'll do the shorter version...cause F do i hate climbing...i like a little misery but 10'000ft...
you guys are seriously delusional...
Actually it's only about 96 miles with 7400 feet, unless you add the ski lift option which makes it 9400 feet and 106 miles.
So come on Crash, you can do it!

Can you put me down in the OP for start time 7:30 (meet 7:15) with the fast group with Chuck Bramwell. Maybe OC_Roadie will want to go now there is a third option for this ride:)

Fine. Of course, you could PM him to let him know.

Anyone have any idea how long this ride will take? Or rather, when we would be back by? I want to go but I have a formal family dinner thing going on that I HAVE to go to...

I could take a guess...
If we roll on time (6:30am) and average 14 miles per hour (there's lots of climbing), that would be 7.1 hours ride time. Add an hour for lunch and stops. 8-ish hours. Back to the car at 2:30pm.
Now, add the reasonable assumptions, (1) we don't roll on time, and (2) we're slower than I thought. Now we're talking 3:30 or 4:00pm. Add a few flats and unanticipated potty breaks -- we're talking 4:30pm.
Bottom line/Legal disclaimer: I'm hoping we're back to the cars by dark. You might consider the "lite" version of the ride depending on the severity of the sanctions for being late to the formal family dinner thing.

Well, I'm still going to be burning gravy, I just forgot you boys were coming up from Anaheim. Doesn't matter, you'll still all beat me up to Baldy.

Nacy,
The last time I did this ride I got back at 4pm but that's with adding the ski lift option, if you leave out the ski lifts you could be back by 3pm. That's leaving at 7:30am, so if you go with the early crew at 6:30 you could be back earlier.

Thanks for the info Matt & Jon!
Well, the way I figure it, if we get back before dark (5:00pm) I should be good; tired as hell, but still good. I'm tentatively in as its the only time I'll have to get my century in for this month.

Uhhh I don't know. It's kind of reversed in cycling. The 'Lite Ride' is for the heavy guys and the 'Heavy Ride' is for the lite guys!:D

Yah; besides, . . . you'd need 4 Nacy's lined up abreast of each other for any significant effect on the winds that are likely.:D Just kidding Nacy.

Has anyone seen the weather report for tomorrow, Looks like it's gonna be pretty windy:
Anaheim Hills (http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?site=sgx&smap=1&textField1=33.84444&textField2=-117.77639)
Mt Baldy Village (http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?site=lox&smap=1&textField1=34.23611&textField2=-117.65917)
I'll probably check the to see how the weathers is in the morning. Not sure I want to ride to baldy village in 40mph winds....

I think we'll go for it. If it's intolerable, we can always quit part way through.
Alternatively, we could always alter the route on the fly with an eye toward getting the century done (we still need one for this month) but omitting some/most of the climbing.
Matt, Mel, & Co. I have come to the conclusion that my out of shape legs and lack of time on the bike has put me in the position to gracefully bow out of the full ride and opt for the lite ride instead. However, the post ride meal still sounds good to me. I'll call and meet up with you all afterwards. Have fun!!!

I'm probably not, but my curly haired, overly energetic "special friend" probably will. Scratch that, she definitely will, assuming we make it through the winds up to the village.

You'll make it, and she will have company to the lifts with another energetic crazy climber in Extort.

Thanks to Matt and Melissa for organizing the ride.
What a great group of people to ride with... I even got congratulated for missing two turns (gave everyone over 100 miles for the day) but dinner afterwards was like eating a wet gym sock... :D
Pics to come soon, downloading from the camera now.
