hum... does this mean if I break my 02 NRS frame Ill get one of these shiney new carbon ones?
I think I've found my new rig.:D
The VeloNews article seems to suggest it might ride a bit differently too. Interesting choice on the fork and rear shock. Also do you think that's a SRAM or XT derailleur?
The article for those who haven't read it:

I've got a long history and personal experience with NRS bikes.
If you weigh more than 160lbs DON'T BUY ONE.
If you plan to do more than race with one DON'T BUY ONE.
If you plan to ride more than light duty XC trails DON'T BUY ONE.
Otherwise they're truly fantastic bikes...Carbon though? Not so sure that's a great idea either...
bikeCO, I'm well under 160, plan on 'some' racing and the trails I'm capable of riding here in MN aren't very epic. Are you saying that the lack of long travel is an issue? I have some experience with the design as a friend has owned two different years of the NRS. Stinkbugging was an issue. Also, the aluminum seemed paper thin.
I'm very willing to try the carbon NRS as I change bikes frequently. But TimB, I'd like to hear why you think a carbon MTB is a bad idea. I'm guessing breakage?

My issues were with both 2001 and 2002 NRS-1 frames. I weigh around 180 and I like technical trails, my problem with the NRS frame is a ghost shifting issue when pedaling through rough terrain.
The 2001 eventually cracked at top most shock mount. Giant warrantied it with a 2002 and the EXACT same problem persisted. My bike was in the shop at least once a month because of this ghost shifting problems. I went through four cassettes, four rear derailleurs and a few inventive fixes that the shop came up with. Nothing worked. Giant eventually warrantied the 2002 frame due to the ghost shifting problem with a 2003 VT-1 frame. I had already switched to an AC Air Light as my main trail bike because of the ghost shifting and I wanted a beefier, cushier ride on the technical trails.
I sold the VT-1 frame and built up a sweet Jamis Eureka with the NRS-1 parts.
Don't get me wrong though - when you ride an NRS for it's intended purpose, it's a friggin awesome ride. A little harsher than other rides...but the "no lockout" NRS suspension performs exactly as it's advertised and designed to.
