Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Greetings from South Carolina. I've just rec'd my "new" old bike this week. Surprisingly, we're getting a lot of rain here so my time on the bike has been somewhat limited. I'm lucky in that my office also includes a considerable amount of warehouse space, so I've been able to get familiar with the bike inside the warehouse, even though extended sessions outside have been restricted. The bike is a 2006 Trek 1000, and I'm as happy as a kid at Christmas. As a matter of fact I have'nt ridden a bicycle since Santa came to visit so, many years ago. I truly don't know why I waited so long to get back on one, but man-o-man what a thrill. I've been reading, researching and hanging out here learning as much as possible over the last few months and now I'm riding. Just had to post a pic and say howdy.

It is good to see another 50+ feeling like it's Christmas.
Howdy, Barry. What part of SC are you in?

Hello Barry, you know, if you lived in Puget Sound and worked for Boeing's, you could have the opportunity to practice riding in the world's largest enclosed space ;) .
But it sounds as if you're making do quite well anyway.
Welcome to BF!

I suppose the rain is welcome. Glad you are with the forums.

Nice. I'm down around Sumter but Greenville is where we'd like to end up (hopefully next year). Lots of cycling out that way, right?

Ceezer....Lots of cycling. Hincapie lives here and is building a new home development/training complex. The Pro Championships were here a month ago, three very active bike shops (each with weekly rides). You see bicycles just about everywhere you go. G'ville also has a really nice downtown area with many shops and restuarants. Hope you make it up.
Aside from road cyclists and the mountain bikers heading for trails, do you see much recreational biking downtown? Like, folks out riding around in the evenings with no absolute purpose, or folks hopping on their bike to head in for a cup of coffee or to just get out for a relaxing jaunt about town?

Absolutely, people all over downtown with bikes. I had to go down there at lunch yesterday aftenoon and was really amazed at the number of cycles I saw. It's a great cycling town.

Rain stopped and it turned out to be a beautiful weekend, but other obligations got in my way and I didn't get much riding time in over the weekend. I did get a chance to get a set of shoes and cleats and practice riding clipless for the first time....Took a couple of tumbles and got a small bit scraped up, but I see now how efficient clipless can be.... I'll just have to keep practicing. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it soon

barry,
Welcome to BF I am from NC but spend waaay too much time in SC. I am currently in the Summerville/Goose Creek area. But if the stars all align and the cards are played I will probably end up back in GSP early next year for a project. I usually stay out on Parham road at I-85 but my project will be downtown. You can spot me pretty easily. I have a red crew cab dually with an old Raleigh Sports standing up in the back:D or I will be cruising Main street on a old green Raleigh Compact RSW folder. If and when I get back that way I will give you a shout.
Aaron:)
