Hi hope all are great... I am building, just from the frame up an old Italvega and know that it used Suntour
derailleurs.. but want to put on it the best i can and still stay with suntour .. so what would be the best to use ... plan to use a six speed ....


any and all help would be great !!!!

Suntour Superbe Pro. But it won't be cheap.

My understanding too was that the Italvegas used Campy derailleurs. When the name changed to Univega and production went to Japan was when Suntour derailleurs were used. Both of my Italvegas (1971 and 1973) are Campy equipped.

My Italvega came to me as a frame, fork and Campy NR headset. I've seen several similar to mine on eBay that were equipped with Stronglight cranks and Campy everything else. What kind of drop outs are on your frame? While functionally it wouldn't matter, I would attempt to match those. If the are forged, they ought to be Campagnolo.

Hi... THanks a ton for all the info.... but from what i have seen looking everywhere is that you are right about the campy gear on these bikes but the low end models the Viva Sport and Nuovo Sport used Suntour .... check these sights guys...

one is a Viva Sport and the other is a Nuovo Sport,.... both list Suntour gear and others...

you should be able to find most of those components on ebay relatively inexpensive.
If you're going to build it with suntour best quality, you need to look for either
Cyclone, or Superbe, Not cyclone II or Superbe Pro those came later.
As CV-6 said not cheap.

One thing to be aware of is that both the Cyclone and especially the Superbe first-generation derailleurs were designed for racing, so they can't handle a wide freewheel range. If that's a consideration, you could keep your eye out for a long-cage version of the Cyclone. Excellent derailleurs. Cyclone was the top of the Suntour range until the Superbe group was introduced in 1977.
Superbe Pro or Cyclone II, as pointed out, are not period correct, but perhaps that's not important to you. They can be pricey, however, and they wouldn't look quite right on the bikes you linked to.
