Pcad is notorious for never taking rest days. Alas, my cranky right knee (the one without the cartilage) is forcing the issue. After one day off the bike it feels much better. I'm giving it at least one more day. It doesn't get sore, just stiff/swollen. Kind of feels as if somebody inflated an air bladder where my meniscus should be. It sucks, but I suppose that goes along with fifty years of age, which is barrelling down on my like the Discovery train as we speak (early November).

I suppose 2-3 days off the bike won't impact my current fitness level and might make me stronger, right? If I don't commit suicide I mean. I will be heading to the gym to find my (hidden) Inner Eight Pack.

I will attempt suicide by cycling 300 miles in a day. Unfortunately this attempt will fail because the endorphins generated will make me feel better. It's a problem.

I can sympathize: I'm working a trade show Friday thru Sunday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. with a 1 hour drive each way. Not exactly rest time, working a trade show. I could get up at the magic Pcad hour and put in some ride time but all that standing around during the day will take it's toll...

Why not stay home, and watch Sportscenter? Non-stop Red Sox replays, repeating hourly. That should get your endorphins sparking.

The Red Sox have no charm as winners. That charming loser mantle now resides firmly on the shoulders of the Cubs (apparently for the rest of our natural lives).

I'm okay with that. Fortunately, the stench of their misery dissipates before reaching the east coast.

If you have a good base in place, you should be taking one or two dayd off per week. If you ride every day, you might want to try taking a day off regularly - you will fly. Obviously, cycling for you is a bit of a compulsion, so I don't bet you'll do it.

No, I do not wonder why. I know why. I suck. If I took rest days I'd be slightly less pathetic.

Again, self loathing is the most important part of Pcad Cycling Zen.

All I know is that come January I'm going to find my way through NY on the way to the family in the Adirondacks and get some PCad time in to learn the cycling zen. It'll be like a pilgrimage to the cycling zen mecca.

It is hard to overstate the disappointment that awaits you. But consider the fact that you are holding up Orange County NY as 'mecca'. This is what we look like here:

I live in Orange County NY and when I first saw 'American Chopper' I presumed it was Orange Cty California. I was completely astonished to learn these gavones were <20 miles from my home. It's sort of similar to how Springsteen put NJ on the map in the 1970's but without any of the cultural value.

ROAD wrote an article about Svein Tuft, mentioning that to get to his teams camp in LA, he just rode from Vancouver, when he arrived, the team was amazed, he just reponded, "..what's the big deal, we ride bikes."

If you root for them Blondie they can't be all bad. Actually Fenway Park is hands down the most amazing and beautiful baseball stadium on the planet. I saw a game there 15+ years back and it was like a time warp. What a national treasure. Just like you.

Right. No I am not training for a 'triple'. I mentioned that as a possible way to attempt suicide, on par with jumping off the GW Bridge or driving my car into a bridge abutment @ 100mph, only much slower and more painful.

Most boring World Series EVER. I'm sure the only people watching this are in New England and Colorado. I have to go watch Simpsons reruns now.

Why are all those Boston players (like Ortiz and Schilling) so friggin FAT? What's UP with that?

If they don't re-sign Mike Lowell, they'll move Youkilis to 3rd and pick up some rent-a-stiff to play first. They don't want or need A-Knob.
