I was just thinking how much I love 80s movies set in a post-apocalyptic earth.

Ya know what I mean?

No?

Think Waterworld, Mad Max, Planet of the Apes.

Those are the only ones I can think of. Anybody have any other good ones?

Escape from New York wins the awesome award
A Boy and His Dog is good, though might be 70s
Liquid Sky
Repo Man isn't really post-apocalyptic, but if kind of feels like it, and is awesome

Tank Girl was from the 90s.

Earlier than the 80's, but great anyway...Omega Man.

JIB

Hell Comes To Frogtown starring Rowdy Roddy Piper. Almost as good as They Live.

I'm afraid waterworld (1995) is a bit late for an 80's style (but if you take this one keep then also the other copy of ''how good and cool I am-costner'', the postman from the future -not sure of the original title).

Pre 80's: Logan's run, Silent running and THX 1138.

80's: Terminator gave us a a short sight of a post apocalyptic world.

Post 80's: 12 monkeys, V for vendetta, children of men, the matrix (and it's sources, dark city, 13th level), equilibrium.

I've only seen the TV commercials, but the new Will Smith movie, I Am Legend is looking alot like a modern remake of Omega Man.

For awhile, Chuck Heston was the King of the Post Apocalypse: Planet of the Apes, Soylent Green, Omega Man.

I almost forgot about this underrated classic. Has anyone seen it?

Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone

Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone

Oh yeah. At the theater in 3d.

This weekend I saw one of the BEST ever futuristic movies (though not exactly post-apocalyptic): Blade Runner.

I've seen it a dozen times, but the "final cut" is playing in theaters, and I saw it at DC's biggest screen, the Uptown Theater. Such a good movie.

Not quite the same style as the others, but who remembers The Day After? I remember such a big deal being made about it at the time, how upsetting it was supposed to be, blah blah blah. Terminator scared me more!

It's the same story but this time using the original title of the book.

Eraserhead.

I Am Legend is a midfifties book. It was the basis for The Last Man on Earth, The Omega Man and the current I Am Legend. Looking forward to it...

Even though its technically not a post-apocalypse flick, The Wraith is a popular popcorn-grabber for me... weak law, gangs gone wild, naked chicks and a killer car... fits the bill mostly.

Not from the 80's but last year's Children Of Men was pretty good. I watched it over the weekend. Very depressing.

I'm waiting for the remake of Soylent Green.

The Quiet Earth, Wheat Soup

So I found The Quiet Earth, but not Wheat Soup.

Does Night of the Comet count?

Blue Velvet

So I found The Quiet Earth, but not Wheat Soup.

Wheat Soup is a Canadian film that takes places after the "Great Flattening". It's about the last wheat farmer, who has to protect the farm from wheat poachers.

Interesting. Food is better than gas anyway in terms of a needed but not easily obtainable resource.
