When a popular interest in this town demands the creation of a Burque MASH rip-off video.

Or more than 10 people who ride fixed gear can also successfully utilize the internet.

Damn, sounds like you really came through with the prizes. Awesome. I too woke up after twelve though and then had to go run some errands. bummer town.

Oh and as jake said in so many words, there is no need for an albuquerque fixed gear messageboard.

I'm sorry I missed it, but I've only been out of bed today twice for a total of about half an hour, and this is better than yesterday. Being sick sucks. Having a laptop, internet, and boobs makes it tolerable though.

two wheel they got nothing but pistas and attitude. well not all of them but enough of them.....
closed sundays and mondays and close really early. not much fixed stuff unless you want a compete bike(bianchi)

fat tire has lots of instant gratification.

bike coop sold out of most stuff right now.

bike works is cool guys that just opened and have a few fixed items

+1 to Fat Tire. I have been going there for almost 12 years haha.

They don't have a ton of fixed gear stuff, but still they have a good selection and are they are getting more.

Not once have I gotten lip from anyone at Two Wheel. Bike Coop on the other hand warrants atleast 10 regular paid visits before you don't get an earful of Afrikaner over a mispronunciation.

Beyond the array of Pista's, you're right, it isn't much of a trend catering fixie boutique, but I don't know any other shop in town that you can walk in an hour before close with a random hub and rim, ask for spokes and have them measured and cut before close. The fact it closes an hour earlier than other shops is no skin off my back, but the Sunday/Monday thing is irritating.

Don't mean to come off as defensive but I get at least one disgusted stare from someone anytime I step into the Coop. Sure Greg has given me some incredible advice and really helped me out on a few occasions but for the Nob Hill premium I'll take it elsewhere.

I have gon into the bike coop a 5 til 6 and greg to the time to face and chase a from and fork for me and **** around with other **** until 7. an hour after they close

jared is not there much and he rocks tall makr and jared is what made the coop real cool but they are off scooping bums and fighting fires all the time.

Dave is also king and make a bad ass frame.

steven maybe an ass to some but give me a great deal everytime i'm in there and donated ton for the first race.

that short guy mark is a complete dick I have try time and time again to be cool to him and he is just a dick. I'm giving up on that dude.

Okay, so my take on local bike shops.

A couple of months ago, I had a bolt snap the threading off the cleat retention plate on my SIDIs. I contact the SIDI guys about the warranty, and after giving me the corporate run-around - having to send in photos of said damage, etc. - their representative offers up the alternative solution: fix it yourself. He puts me in touch with the local SIDI reseller, which just so happens to be Fat Tire, and I got about contacting them. The guy who answered the phone that day? Yeah, he was smarmy. Very smarmy.

So, I'm in University area, and I'm thinking "why not roll by Two Wheel?" So I do, and not only do they provide me with a replacement retention plate, but actually go through the trouble of removing what's left of my cleat, cutting through the carbon insole, replacing the plate, and resetting the cleat - with the shoe fresh off my foot. The smell inside the shoe was horrendous, but the service on the shoe? Impeccable. And when I offered to pay, they turned it down, in spite of me not actually even purchasing the shoe from their shop.

I've seen guys roll in there on department store bikes with thrashed wheels, and be treated with the same courtesy and respect as the click-clack brigade. Probably moreso.

Quite possibly the only bike shop in Albuquerque, aside from REI, where I've never had a problem with the service. Ever. I mean, I've had a guy at Bike World drill my rim just so he could shove a Schrader tube in there and charge me for it, on routine wheel service, before even thinking of asking me if it was okay. I had a guy at Sportz Outdoors spend an hour trying to really convince me I belong on the 60cm frame. I'm 5'11".

That said, there's tons of quality wrenches working at these shops too, who I have the utmost respect for. But bad service happens, so I think it's just appropriate to be cautious about applying suspension of disbelief.

In fact, there's only one "local" shop I've sworn off for life - a highly-reputable shop out of Santa Fe that has me convinced that they're a bunch of unscrupulous scoundrels.

Over the last five years I've had nothing but excellent experiences from Two-Wheel Drive and as a result I've bought three bikes, two frames, and countless other items from them.

The Bike Co-op won't give me the time of day when I enter the place, which is a shame because I want to like the place. Either they are too busy or I'm just too skinny to be seen. They've sold my girlfriend wrong items two times-- they simply don't pay attention to what she's asking for-- and now I don't go in there anymore nor do I recommend the place to anyone new to biking. I sense that the Co-op is like a club-- either you're in it and you get treated like a club member or you're not in it and that's that.

Mark, the one that someone else earlier referred to as a "dick", is the only person at the Bike Co-op that I trust. He used to work at Two-Wheel Drive for years. To each their own.

I'm sure Fat Tire is a great shop but it is out in the middle of nowhere (if you live centrally and don't drive-- which I don't).

different stroke for sure.
I'm glad people like two wheel drive I want all small bussiness to do great.
I just have not had the love that most have.
and I guess I'm just enough of an ass hole to be in the bike coop club.
don't get me wrong I really want to like short Mark. but I can only try so much.
Fat tire just has a lot of goodies in stock and a bunch of stoners behind the counters , but good folks

Can anyone confirm?

This isn't solely fixed gear related, but between 1 and 2:30p.m. on Sunday, January 20th, there's going to be a free bicycle maintenance event at the Peace and Justice center. I figure most of you know your ****, but any advanced questions, peculiar bicycle problems or interest in hanging out are all welcome.

This is for a bicycle share program a few friends and I are starting up as a non-profit in hopes to eventually put out free bikes for Burquenos to use. If anyone's just interested in finding out more about the group, what we do, or how to get involved, stop by.

Hope to see some of you there.
