The NRA has a program called Eddie Eagle (http://www.nrahq.org/safety/eddie/index.asp). You can like or dislike the NRA (I'm not a fan, even though I've owned guns.), but you have to admit that a course aimed at children, delivering the message "If you see a gun: STOP! Don't Touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult." in a fun framework is going a long way. If it's true that "The Eddie Eagle GunSafeŽ Program neither offers nor asks for any value judgment concerning firearms." then it's hard to fault the program.

Is there a program of similar quality promoting cycling safety? Perhaps something that teaches children basic traffic safety, helmet use, and the like? I'd be willing to put a little money, and/or time into a program like this. I see a lot of posts around here fussing about wrong-way riding, sidewalk riding, riding at night without lights, and more, but I'm not aware of a proactive education program pushing this message to the public.

The LAB has two kids courses that teach kids those exact things.

We taught about 6 classes in 2007 and we will teach at least 15 in 2008.

so, you're looking for a program that teaches kids "If you see a bike: STOP! Don't Touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult." without any value judgement about bikes?

sounds pretty rare...

I think he is looking for a program that does not call people driving motorized vehicles CAGERS and advising running stop signs while flipping off people who honk at your foolish behavior.

I teach safe cycling as part of the Scouts' Bicycling Merit Badge.

I hold a class every year.

Exactly! I'm tired of driving up behind kids riding their bikes, and having one kid yield to the right and the other yield to the left. I'm tired of playing chicken with cyclists riding down the wrong side of the road. The stories of silly cops, H2 drivers making rude comments, or close calls in the door zone are all interesting, but I'd like to try doing something. I'm just looking to see if there is a framework that already exists that could be used to promote lawful bicycle use, and if so, if there are opportunities for me to donate a little money or time.

Hmmm... The LAB website shows a few instructors in my area. I think that might be a decent starting point. Thanks for the tip!
