Hi Folks,

I just received my Astrale from Performance Bike yesterday and after 2 hours finally gout it mounted and able to receive signals from bothe the speed sensor and the cadence sensor.

Here are my issues right now:

1)How do you secure the cadence magnet on the left crank? It comes with these silly little zipties to warp around the crank, but after just 10 menutes of pedalling....on a trainer....the ziptie gets loose and falls away from where it needs to be. What else are other people using? If it's this bad on a trainer I know it wont say secure on the road.

2) Sensor mounts - The front sensor mount for the cadence has a strip of black plastic that sticks out to the left of the bike by a couple of inches. With every pedal stroke, the pedal crank hits this piece of protruding plastic. I fear that this will knock the sensor out eventually.

Should I just return the thing?

1) Try putting a small piece of an old tube under the sensor. This will give it enough "bite" to not move around.

2) Is it just extra strap? Can you cut it off?

The sensor has a little double sided tape attached to it. Just peel off the cover paper and it should be held in there ok. I'm only using the zip tie and it works fine for me; I'm using it on a mountain bike. Just make sure you tighten it real nice.

I was confused about the extra stuff coming off the sensor mounts ... cut it off, that's what I've been told to do, and that's what I did.

The problem with the Astrale is that the sensor mounts are weak. The cadence mount is particularly vulnerable to breakage if not handled carefully. Mine broke twice, and what I did instead of repairing it is that I used two larger zip ties to hold it in place ... one to secure it to the chainstay, the other to space the sensor away from the chainstay and closer to the crank. It kinda looks like a braid.

You can get a new beefier sensor set, but they cost about the same as the entire unit, so don't bother. ;)

trim down the excess plastic on the band.... the only reason it's that long is to accomodate different diameter chainstays. your chainstay doesn't grow or shrink, so once it's done, "set it and forget it"
