"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Optygen Users

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I was thinking of giving Optygen a shot and was wondering how others incorporate it into their training. Is it a case of loading and maintaining during heavy training or do you take it all year round?

Optygen is completely and utterly useless/worthless.

no....we went through the whole 'its great/it's sh*t' debate with that thread....i'm asking a specific question in regards to training and usage

call me stubborn......but i'd like to test the stuff out for myself.......then i'm going to try some dimpled wheels to see if i make it onto the fairway

OK, waste your money. To actually answer your question, then, use it however you want. It won't work either way.

Pcad falls into the Optygen abuser category. I break the capsules and snort the contents.
Don't bother using it during training- take 1.5 to 2x the preload dosage during the loading phase.
Do it before events.

following the labels works pretty well... another rider I know takes the pure form- cordiceps (much cheaper) and essentially the same effect. EVEN IF IT DOESN'T WORK, the placebo effect is still efficient.

to answer your question-- you could try the instructions (loading then maintenance) but up the dosage to 2x the loading on RACE DAY. try out out-- it worked for me, I could last a bit longer on the climbs without feeling it

Didn't do dick for Pcad today. That is all.
How long before it ends up on the banned list?

It's a fungus that attacks insect species. The spores invade their brain, force them to climb to a good spot for maximum environmental spread of more spores, then it kills them and a fungus stalk sprouts out of the head of the insect.
Real gourmet stuff.

Hi,
I have tried cordyceps. It appears to reduce inflammation in the lungs. Not as well as my asthma inhaler, but well enough that I use it from time to time. You should be able to find it in your local
health food store.
I think anyone that likes it a lot should get their lungs checked.

Anything that grows inside insect brains is good enough for me.

if you want to go down that path of what is in our diets, most of us would stop eating anything processed BUT that is just too much work!
Back to the point, its spelled CORDICEPS on optygen but is more commonly spelled as CORDYCEPS (with a Y)-- so try both searches.

Just so long as it doesn't develop a taste for human tissue.

And sometimes you still have your $49.95 left in the bank.

Better yet save it for 8 months and buy a used Powertap!
This is the epitome of a BF thread. Question asked, opinions that dont answer the question abound, then off on a tangent until someone recommends getting a power tap.
That's why I keep logging in.:D

You'll never hear Pcad recommend the Power Tap, I'd need an MIT undergrad degree to figure out how to download the data onto a laptop. That's why the dudes who use them have user names like 'Doctor' W. Also stop pissing on baseless opinions and tangents. Without those BF would cease to exist.

I generally use it for checking the price of Apple stock which has more than doubled since I purchased our shares in February. I did get a load of a late model Dell running Windows Vista recently. After my MacBook Pro running Leopard, it was like hopping in a 1973 Gremlin after driving a 2007 Porsche.
Check with me in January after Apple announces its quarterly results for the last three months of 2007 and we can discuss which Porsche I'll be purchasing. Only kidding. I'll be sticking with the Apple stock. In the meantime let's hope Mr. Jobs' Gulfstream doesn't pancake into a mountain.

thread hijack - Leopard rocks (addicted to Spaces) but are you having issues with Time Machine bogging down the system? Might be my RAM, 2 gig on a dual 2.4 MacBook Pro....

Spaces is really pretty easy - Preferences sets up how many Spaces you have (I use 4). Then F8 shows the spaces, and let's you drag windows to different Spaces. You can also set defaults-like Excel always opens in Space 2. What you end up with is something like 4 different monitors - so for example you can group all your communications in one (Entourage, Skype, IM), browsing in another and maybe work stuff in a third, etc. It's like having multiple virtual monitors...

It might be Parallels, I removed it and the folders for it, in both libraries, from the list of backups (in time machine prefs), and it works great now!!
If you don't have parallels, then I dunno.

Why would I use CAD to do patent drawings? That's like hiring a brain surgeon to remove a splinter. We use Adobe Illustrator. I may call my business Cotsis CAD, but that is no more misleading than calling Pcad a 'bicycle racer' on BF. I'm hoping it works out for us, we've been doing it on a trial basis now for 16 years.
The degree to which the Windows weenies still don't get Apple is astonishing, and it even extends to Wall Street, but that's great. It makes AAPL (the stock symbol for Apple Inc.) a combination Secure Blue Chip/Hi Tech Contrarian stock play. Up another $1.91 per share today by the way. In that spirit, please redirect your CAD comments to the rocket scientists @ NASA, who also like their Macs.

And who can blame you? Macs do look cool.
Isn't there some powerful AutoCAD compatible application for the Mac? And if not, why not try installing Windows XP on your Intel Mac to see how it runs? We do patent illustrations, I called my business 'CAD' just because it sounded cool, and my clients figure if you're doing drawings on a computer it must be computer aided drafting. And I suppose it is. All semantics in one sense, but what we do isn't 'drafting' as much as it is illustration. There is a real difference.

How much of that was attributable computers, and how much of that was due to pink covers for overpriced MP3 players?

Apple Inc.'s share of the U.S. personal computer market for the third calendar quarter of 2007 was 8.1 percent, up from 6.2 percent during the same period one year ago, according to preliminary results released from Gartner on Wednesday.

Yep. It's the computers stupid (I paraphrase a successful 1990's presidential campaign slogan). Same as it ever was really. Even when iPods and iPhones are rocking, where do you think that way cool hardware and particularly software mojo comes from? Uhhh, oh yeah from the Mac platform. Keep your eye on the levitating Mac market share. Even Microsoft may start paying attention to that. But let's hope they don't.
Buy Apple stock boys. It's still cheap (< $200 per share). Don't you wish you had loaded up on Google @ that price (closing in on $700 per share today)?
What does all this have to do with cycling? Everything. You gotta pay for all this stupid overpriced bike schwag somehow.
