The disc brakes on my 2003 Cannondale Cyclocross are beginning to squeak when braking now, similar to the sound a car makes when its pads are wearing thin...what's the expected lifespan on these? I've only ridden about 400 miles on them.

It all depends on how much and how hard you crank on them. Are they still stopping well? I found you need to adjust disk pads a lot more often than with caliper brakes. Have a look at adjusting them. I also strip the whole thing off and wash it with a toothbrush and washing up liquid. For me this has worked out well.

Oh and car brakes dont necessarily squeel because of worn pads. To stop it on cars you would use a anti-squeel shim, not an option on a bike but thought you may like to know. :)
