Old Town Bicycle (http://www.oldtownbicycle.com/) opens tomorrow at 10:00 in the old Talcott Jewelers store on Capitol in Olympia. That makes three bike shops in downtown oly - five if you count Bike Tech and Falcone's up their respective hills. That's got to be some kind of LBS-per-capita record!

Anyone besides me going to check it out?

Schedule did not permit, how did it look?

Very, very, nice building - certainly the coolest looking bike shop in town. Tons of Specialized bikes in stock, and quite a few kid's bikes as well. They had two langsters on the floor, a Boston and a Chicago. They had clothes, helmets, racks, pumps, saddles, wheels, and pedals, but no lights to speak of. They said they were still unloading stock and would have more soon.

I dropped my bike off for service (tune up, wheels need trued) because there was practically no wait, and I'll pick it up today. I'll post when I pick it up and give a review of the service.

How much is the tune-up?

Pretty fancy looking, and clean, oh so clean. All Cannondale and Specialized bikes. Friendly workers. Not a lot of utility type stuff (yet? fair bit of empty shelves). One light (NiteRider LED?) I picked up a pair of 'descente' gloves (I had a pair queued up at rei.com then remembered I had time to hit the new shop, so held off and these look serviceable enough; $10 sticker higher than rei, but only ~$4 more after subtracting shipping).

Yeah, I asked about lights, too. The one they showed me was a Light & Motion Vega - 85 lumens for $185! So I went home and hit the Dinotte sale. :) 200 lumens for $100!

The tune-up was really nice, and for $65 + tax they trued both wheels, cleaned and lubed everything, tensioned the chain, etc., etc. I didn't know my shifter cable needed lubed until I rode it after the tune up - wow! One of the manager types also noticed that my superflash had fallen apart and directed me to where they had them in stock for $25, which is less than I paid for the first one.

Hardy - did you bring the pug when you went? I wish I could have seen it.

No, that would have been fun though. It seems like this would be a good time to get servicing at the new place 'cause they can't have a backlog built up yet, can they?

I talked with one of the partners. He told me that you could purchase lifetime tune-ups/adjustments for $199... and $149 for bikes purchased at the store. I think I'll go that route instead of $65 a pop. I assume that parts are extra for anything that needs to be replaced. I'll have to ask if the "tune ups" include trueing the wheels???

The store is awesome though! I love all those higher end specialized and cannondale road models. I've been eyeing the Specialized Roubaix Pro... it would be the ultimate ride for me! All the shops in the downtown area are great. It's nice to have a new one though!
