Foo - Satellite Radio

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So who else has it and/or likes it? I am sitting on the back patio, having a beer, with a fire going in the pit listening to the boneyard on XM radio. Does it get any better than this? OK, so maybe all i have left is my memories, but damned those 80's were good. ;)
It's weird cuz i don't really give a crap about XM in the car, but i love it outside blaring so all the neighbors have to hear it.

Well, i for one think it is powerful. I might be thirty something, but as of right now I am at a keg party sitting by a bon fire listening to popular music. (aka as sitting out back by myself, drinking beer, listening to old music, beside a fire pit. ) Oh yeah, and all of the chicks are really diggin' me.
Oooh, it's like radio, but you get to pay for it! Neato!

No way no how I pay a monthly fee for radio.

Live out in Kansas for awhile and you might change your mind.

to not have to listen to commercials and stupid laughter about nothing, is worth it to me.
Ah, but just wait. Just like cable and satellite TV got commercials, so too will satellite radio.

But it's not radio. It is music in the EXACT way you want it. If it isn't, pick one of another 100 or so stations that suit your taste. I have Sirius in my new F-150 and I would not ever listen to just "radio" anymore.
I had Sirius for about six months and freaking LOVED it. Then they went and changed their programming.
I've been using Sirius for a year and a half and haven't regretted it yet. It's not radio. I can't drive from Sumter, SC to Marietta, OH and listen to the same station on radio. In fact, for a large portion of that drive you can't pick up *any* station on the radio. I can't get dozens of NCAA and NFL games and NASCAR events every weekend on radio (some stations air MRN for races, but that's hit-or-miss). As someone mentioned, there are hundreds of stations and one is bound to be nearly tailored to your tastes. Probably a lot closer than anything you can dial in on, anyway. Then there's the countless talk shows with everyone from Tony Stewart to, if you're into it, Howard Stern and Bubba the Love Sponge.

Honestly, i have to say that this is wrong. My #1 turn off with XM is the commercials. Sure there are some commercial free channels but most of them are worse than free radio. I think satellite radio is failing partially because of this.
THe thing i like about it is that there are niche channels, like the boneyard. The thing i hate about it is they give a new meaning to 57 channels and nothing on....except for advertising.
I drive, on a not too irregular basis, from D.C. up to Philadelphia and love not having to find new stations (AM/FM/CD/Sirius head unit)...just set and forget!
I read your post at 11 AM on a Saturday morning and my only thought was, dang, he is starting to drink a bit early today.

We have Sirius in the car and love it. We also have a Phatbox in the car (20GB removable HD cartridge mp3 player) for the times when we want to listen to a specific song. At home we either listen to the 70+ GB of mp3s on the computer, or we tune in one of the digital music channels on cable. I only listen to regular radio at work, because the other guys listen to it.

Damn straight. I pay specifically not to get commercials. I watch TV shows on Netflix specifically because having everything broken up by constant commercials is a nuisance. I like the fact that BF gives an option to pay for access if you don't want to be bombarded by ads. I wish more sites did this.
Money well spent in my view.

Sirius here...I've got the portable unit. Got it for Stern, but like the Pulse, Left o Center and Hard Attack. I esp. like the WiFi capability...get to listen indoors

You are telling me XM has commercials? Well there is your problem then, it is not Sirius! On Sirius there may be 10 seconds of DJ stuff every few songs or something like that. NEVER any commercials. If there was, I would not pay one penny for it because then what does that make it? Regular crappy radio.
Yeah, i think i would prefer Sirius but the wife bought me XM for X-mas last year. I am waiting to see if they merge, which is possibly going to happen. XM has TONS of commercials. Again, they have some commercial free channels but it is not uncommon at the top of the hour to hit 15-20 channels in a row with ALL of them having commercials on at the same time. It is almost worse than FREE radio at times.

That explains why Sirius costs more. I believe Sirius has some channels with commercials, but I don't listen to any of them. If they ever chose to put commercials on too many of the channels I like, I'd drop my subscription like a rock.

XM at work and in one of my vehicles. I listen to 6, 7, 8 for the most part, but when I'm traveling, I'm all over it listening to the comedy channels and Lucy and quite a few others....I love it!
I've had my subscription for nearly 3 years....

SIRIUS ROCKS! It's no wonder why the NAB is saying no no no to the merger of xm and sirius. I've learned not to speak to people over 39 about satellite radio. They just don't understand it and probably the ones listening to FM. God bless Howard and his one hundred mill, he deserves every penny. specially when you compare his career to melgibson, UGH!
