Touring - Chicago-Atlanta trip

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I don't post here all that often, but I figured I'd mention that I'm starting a tour tomorrow, going from Chicago to Atlanta, and back. I plan to take an eastern route on the way down, going through Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee, and then head more west on the way back up, through Alabama, hit St. Louis, and return through Illinois.
I hope to keep a daily journal for the trip on my website, which can be found at http://www.gregie.com/neil/bike/tour
Can't wait to get on the road!

If you are coming through Cartersville, Ga. in route to Atlanta via US hwy 411 or 41. I would love for you stop by the school I work at ( off of Hwy 41) and say hello. Maybe you could talk to my Geography class about your trip.
Happy Trails.

I looked through your journal and photos on the website. Looks very cool. The bike is great. What is it? Looks like trek 620? :)
Are you on the ride right now?
Good luck :D
I enjoyed reading your first entry. When I saw your route, my first thought was, "Oh no, he's going through East Chicago and Gary!" I had to read it. Yes, the part of Gary you went through is pretty industrial and not very populated. If anything, I'd be more concerned about a drunk driver from the casino boats, or the crazy drivers on Indianapolis Blvd when you are going through EC.
Anyways, good luck on the rest of your trip.
Congratulations on finishing your tour. You definitely deserve a cold beer.
Nice journal, I enjoyed following along. Welcome home!

Neil,
It was a fun read. You passed through a lot of country with which I was very familiar.
