seeking advise

I have a pre-owned Trek T100. I has bar end shifters and 105 brake levers. I want to change the cantilever brakes to v brakes. Would this be a problem with the 105 levers? I also want to change the front derailleur. Now I have a LX. Should I stay with a ATB derailleur or go to a road type. I have 30/42/54 chain rings.

I have a T100 but it has a flat bar and MTB brake levers, I also got rid of the original cantilever brakes and mounted V-Brakes, I had lots of trouble keeping the cantilevers adjusted. In may case it was a simple brake change.

To use V-brakes you will need Travel Agents that double the cable pull of the the 105 road levers. You can see Travel Agents in the same site here:

Surprised that they are not mentioned in the Sheldon Brown's brake adjustment page.

Given the 54/42/30 chainrings, you would be better off going to a road (105) or flat bar (440 or 770) FD. Technically, they have the correct radius to ensure crisp shifts.

The LX/XT/XTR FDs are designed for chainrings smaller than 46 T.
