Northern California - Mt Tam Ride Report Oct 27th

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ron and Marco, thanks for the company on the way back home, I think we all kept each other going.
No problem. I would have stuck with you guys up to Woodside to get my 100, but with no lighting the smart choice was to head home. I still got 80 miles, so I am happy :)
Descending Mt Tam, I came around a blind corner to find a driver more than half over the double yellow  as she tried to pass some climbing cyclists. That certainly made me a lot more nervous and cautious for the rest of the descent.
Yeah I almost ran smack into her, what the hell was she thinking??
I Definitely slowed down a little after that!

And later on, a few of us were stopping at a T-intersection to let a truck turn onto our road. Well, the truck stopped in front of us and then went into reverse. As we suddenly changed our mind to go around him, he started screaming at us for not stopping!:rolleyes:
I was right behind that truck when the jerk started to back up and I had to past it on the right side to avoid being hit. I heard him screaming too but didn't hear what he said.

I'm finally recovered enough to be able to move my muscles.;)
That was a great ride everyone. A lot of props to Pete for organizing the event. The climbs were long and hard but the descents in between made them really fun and it added much needed variety. It was great to ride with a bunch of great and strong riders. It made me push harder and hopefully get stronger.
I'm pretty bummed that I wasn't able to stick with the trip to Henry's place. I was kinda looking forward to that but fatigue got the better part of me and the thought of more climbing pretty much did me in. :(
I'm looking forward to riding with you guys again soon.

Well, dang - looks like I missed a heck of a ride! The pics are just fantastic!
Yeah I almost ran smack into her, what the hell was she thinking??
You know what she was thinking, Marco? "Those horrible cyclists MADE ME almost crash!"
I am constantly amazed at how STUPID a few drivers are about passing bicycles. I've heard people complaining about how they almost got into an accident because they were passing some cyclists and almost crashed with a car going the other way. You'd think that everyone would know that swinging over into the other lane to pass a bike on a blind curve is a bad idea.
You'd think that, but you'd be wrong.

passing on blind curve = throwing caution to the wind

I attempted my normal practice routine at the rehearsal studio in the evening. No coordination in the legs at all on the kicks. I would have been more productive trying to solve a Rubik's cube than keep steady time.
I'd love to see that video! Probably like the night I played guitar on Beers, vicodin and weed. DOH!

Ron and Marco, thanks for the company on the way back home, I think we all kept each other going. And Henry, it was great to get a chance to stop in and see you. Those hills leaving your place were tough (at least after all the previous riding)!
The hills, though short and sweet, may have done me in for the next 20 miles. That pastry at Roberts in Woodside felt soooo gooooooooood.

I know most of the faces in the other pics but who are these two? Are they BF'ers?

Oh these guys? They're not important. Just kidding. They're my buddies. The one in red is my friend and regular riding buddy, the girl is my climbing/riding friend.

How about the older asian gentleman?
How about the older asian gentleman?
That would be John (Peter's friend).
That looks like one of the original Piranha helmets that Specialized introduced after the Sub6 and Sub6 pro.

I actually remember seeing the ads for those in Winning and VeloNews, etc.. (when I was a kid)

Ok now you're really making me feel old. The helmet is a backup. My regular one is falling apart, which
is strange since it's much more recent. The Specialized helmet has held up better than the newer one.
However, I just picked up a new helmet to avoid all the comments.
The ad campaign for the Sub 6 was the funny one. Lance wearing the helmet on one side of the page and a big hair dryer you see at a salon on the other.
