I just saw a TV commercial explaining exactly what Share the Road means.
It shows a driver getting all frustrated because there's a cyclist taking the lane in front of her. Then the narrator says when you see a cyclist in the road, don't get angry. Cyclists have all the same rights to the road as motorist do. And it shows a share the road sign like you see all over the place. It totally frames the meaning of share the road to mean car drivers must share the road with cyclists. Totally cool.
It was paid for by a local cycling organization in San Luis Obispo. Way to go you guys. I hope my Lighthouse Century money helped pay for that!
hope this commercial will spread east to nj!

I too wish there were more educational materials in Syracuse NY. Although we are not a big city, I just think it's all the more reason to educate people now, as biking is becoming more useful. Syracuse just started doing biking lanes on the university hill area and already there is an issue with people parking in biking lanes, but luckily there are being ticketed.
I wish all cities would adapt bike lanes in to ANY road projects that occur from this moment on.

Thanks for posting that, Diane.
I see quite a few "Share the Road" signs in people's yards on various portions of my commute through downtown neighborhoods. Yes, it's very cool, IMHO. (Truly, it gives me a warm feeling, I almost want to run up and knock on the door and say, "Hey!" ;) )
(Reminds me of one lady on the train with her bike. She was commuting, and when I talked to her, I discovered that I had already talked to her husband, another bike commuter and a teacher at Georgia State University. Small world!)

Good commercial. Now all we need is one for cyclists that explains the same thing about a pedestrian ahead of a cyclist on a MUP.

How about one for MUP pedestrians that tells them not to stagger like they just killed a fifth of Jaeger?
those commercials are great!

Awesome.
Where I live in South Tampa, people accept my bicycle as another vehicle on the road. But, need to explain to those a55h0le5 in North Tampa. Always being told to get off the road onto the sidewalk. As usual, just ignore them or give them a wave and a smile.

Our one that tells them that bike paths are not the same as MUPs.

I like in one of ads the two cyclists were pairing up when there was a solid line for no overtaking, even if they were riding single file.

That's the best PSA (the first one) for bicycling I've ever seen, hands down.

How bout an ad telling people to walk on the right side of the path, rather than picking a side at random or walking three abreast? And explaining how being on one side of the trail with your dog on a long leash on the other side with the overweight nearsighted cyclist zipping down the hill toward you is not a good situation? And an ad saying if you are on a trail, you should NOT be completely oblivious to your surroundings?

I wonder if there is anyway our local group can get these aired here?
These are indeed good PSAs. (did you see all three?)
These are very much the sort of things I have long been suggesting that cycling advocacy should promote.

Why?
We knew this was coming. Leave it alone HH. You're going to get slapped for animal cruelty if you keep beating dead horses.
Some people prefer riding in bike lanes. If that's what gets them out of the house, it's good for everyone.

Too late... you touched it... that will only bring out the BL analysis... sigh. and your comment "it's good for everyone," boy that's gonna bring 'em on like cockroaches...
Not that I am comparing the anti-BL crowd to cockroaches, mind you. ;)

Back in March we had about 2 weeks of Share the Road radio PSA's in Chicago. They were sponsored by the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation and Illinois Dept of Transportaton.
