Found a cool new store in the mall today! They just opened, and it's called All Things Renewable (http://allthingsrenewable.com)
The store had lots of different things that are all based on renewable resources and a section with solar, wind, and alternate power info.
Had a good talk with the owner about the store and his goals... He knows that he'd probably do better as a business if he found a seperate store (And he thinks he will probably expand to a second free-standing store later) but he was willing to pay the much higher rent for the store in the mall because of the amount of traffic that goes past... he hopes to get more people interested in the idea of reducing our impact through a greater usage of renewable resources and energy. More chance of getting peoples attention that really hadn't thought about it much.
One of the really cool things he had was a selection of solar-panel equipped bags. Messenger bags, backpacks, a camera bag, etc. One of the brands he carries is Reware (http://www.rewarestore.com/index.html) ... they have flexible solar panels in them that actually put out a decent amount of current.
They have some other things that are really cool... the Power Pockets (http://www.rewarestore.com/pockets.html) for one... Perfect for touring! Spread them over your bags and charge all your batteries while you ride! No more looking for an outlet and having to wait around for your phone or batteries to charge, or plugging them in and hoping nobody steals them.
They had a section with books on different topics... including solar and wind power. Lots of cool stuff. I'll be going back in there Monday to talk with him. He has a list right by the register of customer ideas for stuff that he can carry, but I couldn't think of anything off hand. Maybe you guys can help me out?
It's a small store, so he doesn't have a ton of room, and he's looking for things that aren't widely available elsewhere (ie: No compact flourescent light bulbs)
So... any ideas?
