Today I was doing my usual ride through the Mission, minding my own business when some asshat in an F-350 comes careening down Albion Alley. I yell at him because he almost whacked me with his mirror. The guy comes to a screeching halt, throws the truck in reverse and tries to run me over while yelling at me. I decide it's better to take off than deal with the homicidal maniac. Two blocks away on 14th st. He tracks us down and starts threatening us. We manage to get away with nothing more than verbal abuse. I thought this was enough excitement for one day and decided to start heading home. As we came up on the intersection of Page and Scott there were people crossing through the crosswalk as and a cabbie in the intersection waiting to turn left. I slowed, noticed the pedestrians would probably deter the cabbie from going through with the left hand turn. That didn't turn out to be the case, he gunned it and I ended up on his hood. Luckily all he did was tear my wheel to shreds and scratch my frame a bit, I was shook up but unhurt. We exchanged info, etc. but I'm not convinced anything will come of it. Has anyone had their bike damaged by a car? Did the insurance company pay to fix it? What was the result?

Errr, for the first guy, take your cell phone and snap a pic of his license plate. That seems to diffuse some issues.

I'm not sure if its worth your time to go through the insurance crap for the expense of one tire.

Hey man, sorry to hear of your terror, that really sucks. I drove a cab for 10 years and have seen this many times. You need to go down to the cab company and and demand to see a supervisor. Tell them your bike is really trashed. and your shoulder and neck are very sore now and you are going to the hospital to be checked out by a physician. Be demanding and tell them if something doesn't happen your seeing a lawyer. They have more money then brains and should pay you off. Go buy yourself an Orbea and stay out of the mission. :) don't let them push you around.

What a close call, go to the doc to get checked just in case.

I am glad nothing serious really happened, like usual... got any pics?

Thanks for the responses guys. Here's the pics. The rim is bent and the brakes got jacked and bent. What are my rights here? I honestly have no clue as to the best way to go about this. I'm going to call the cab company tomorrow to see what's up, but I'm worried I'll just get the run around.

Sorry about that man. That's crazy I was in the mission today buying a bike at the indiemart. That's not the first time I've heard of a driver going all screwy. It's why I keep my mouth shut, even if they're wrong. It hurts sometimes, biting my bottom lip, but I want to live.

So I guess I'm in the market for new wheels now. As this is an old bike it had some pretty decent 27" wheels on it. I am noticing that most of the modern rims are 700c. Will this fit my bike fairly well? Will i need to make any adjustments to the brakes, etc.? Sorry, I'm still pretty much a n00b about all this stuff!

Did you file a police report?

Apparently there was no need as no one was hurt. That's what the dispatcher told us.

You can still file a police report after the accident. You just have to go down and do it.

Good to know. Will that help me in recovering money for the damages?

Good to know. Will that help me in recovering money for the damages? Yes. The police report is important, as that will let you put in an insurance claim. The insurance company will want to see a copy of that.

Has anyone had their bike damaged by a car? Did the insurance company pay to fix it? What was the result? I already detailed it in another post (http://bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=5471555&postcount=24), but basically I had the LBS quote the price for parts and labor, insurance company paid it in full, no questions asked. result? new bike.

Crast: Thanks for the info. I called the cab company and they need another day to process the claim. So we'll see what happens. I'll go to the station tonight to file a report so hopefully that will help the process along. I'm basically just hoping to get my wheels and brakes replaced so we'll see how much of a stink they raise about that.
