Has anyone been out there today yet? It smells ok, but not quote sure yet. AQMD.gov says to still be careful. Let me know what your experience has been if you've been out there. Thinking of a ride through Shady and sticking mostly around Newport. thanks

Rode PCH south today from Costa Mesa. The air starting getting smoky around Crsystal Cove, and got progressively worse as we go into Laguna. We turned around and went north. The air quality between Corona Del Mar and Long Beach was pretty tolerable.

We decided against riding today. Going to give it a few more days. Shooting for Tuesday.

rode west of the 405 and around newport. Newport wasn't bad, but parts of irvine, you could smell the smoke and see the haze. may want to take a few more days off.

I'm going to hold out until Friday. Hopefully the air and my back will both be OK by then.

Oceanside woke up to a light smoke smell this morning that cleared out by about 10. I saw light to medium amounts of cyclists when I drove from here to south Carlsbad for lunch. The horizon looks hazy or smoggy.

There was quite a few riders out today. Rode PCH south to Laguna Main Beach from HB and back up Newport Coast to Back Bay, back to HB. Just got back and the air quality seemed to be pretty tolerable as OC Roadie had mentioned. I didn't notice or feel any of the smoke and the ride felt great!!!:)

I rode SART on Saturday, Imperial to PCH then over to the HB Pier. Sky was ugly, couldn't smell the fire much. Coast looked very nice compared to the trail inland. 50 miles with no noticeable differences in breathing.

Week before in the wind was terrrible and much tougher on the nose and eyes!:p

I rode today. I still have a headache from it. Of course if I had stuck with my plan it would have been better. I planned on riding along the ocean. I rode, instead along Portola, then Irvine Blvd., up Bake to Portola and back down Lake Forest. The air was bad but in Foothill Ranch really bad. As soon as I crested Bake, I began having trouble with my breathing. Those poor folks. A week's worth of bad air and probably a few more coming.

Anyway, air was better yesterday then it was today. The fire is still burning and from Foothill Ranch you could see a plume of smoke. The fire damage is evident everywhere. It burned all the way down to Irvine Blvd. And the hills to the north are bare. It will be real hard to ride through Santiago Canyon once it's opened up.
