My LBS called this morning and told me my bike is ready to be picked up after a comedy of errors including Giant not stocking rims in the UK, silver spokes being fitted rather than black then a shortage of black spokes.

The last three weeks have been clear blue sky, virtually no wind and good temperatures (if you know British weather you'll understand how unusual that is!) and perfect cycling weather and I pick that time to crash and wreck the bike. Plus I had a weeks vacation.

So what is there to complain about? Well for the first time in weeks IT'S RAINING! Hard! I can't believe it.:(

There is a group of gremlins called "The Happy Police." Everytime you think things are going great and are happy, they swoop down and toss a spanner in the works.

The trick is not to appear too happy ever. Of course, "The Happy Police" are pretty smart and you can't fool them all the time.

Pretend you are a duck and let the rain roll off your back and go ahead and ride, carefully!

P.S. Last week it was so foggy here in the morning that you couldn't see 10 feet. I remarked to an English co-worker that I was suprised he wasn't at the beach because of the London Spring like weather!

I just know that the Happy Police will be waiting round a corner probably riding a hedge cutter - scattering thorns all over the road!

Hey look how negative I've become!

I guess your only solution is to buy another bike, that way if the one is broken, you can ride the other.

Problem solved :D

take care,

Jester

I'm willing to bet some guy/gal in your area just received his or her new telescope. It's a well-known fact among astronomers that bad weather actually follows the shipment of new telescopes, not complex weather paterns (as most meteorologists would have you believe)

Its all part of a plot so that when things do go right you cant realy enjoy it 'cos your expecting it to all turn to crap at any moment :crash:

Hmm - another bike would be a good idea BUT not sure that would go down well with the wife. After all she could have another vacation for the cost of it.

BTW when I picked up the bike from LBS I didn't think to check that the front tire was at the right pressure. While going fast downhill and turning into a side road I completely lost control. Front end went straight on and had to bail out into a grass verge. Sadly managed to land in the only bed of nettles in sight. Ouch. My right arm and leg looked very attractive covered in big bright red boils. At least the bike was OK this time and no-one was there to witness it.

I hadn't fallen since I was about 8 - now it's twice in a month! Maybe I should give up the bike while I'm still alive.

Hell no, crashing is what cycling is all about! :D

That my excuse anyway.;)

Riding in the rain *can* be a positive experience, though. I have refused to ride my Litespeed in bad weather for too long. After being caught last week in two hard showers, I survived, didn't crash and am a better rider for it. Just thought this thread needed a voice from the, uh, wet n' wild side. Of course, I'm a Baptist and a thorough soaking works out great. All you sprinklers might have another viewpoint! ;)
