Mountain Biking - Hmmmm

Right guys..... im looking at a specialized hardrock for £300...... but my m8 has just offered me his bike for £500.... as far as i can see its got Shimano XTR brakes, Mavic D521 rims, marzocchi Bomer forks... although im not sure what model... PLanet X saddle by the looks of it Can u tell me which u would buy for the money please? IM into Freeride and stuff like that

That looks like a djing machine. It is a euro company that isn't known over here. Looks steel? And wow look at the sizee of the headtube. If it is a bud and you trust the quality that is worth it for that gruppo on a good frame :)...besides its unique.

That bike and the hardrock are somewhat dissimilar. Main difference is the frame, as Mael said the bike pictured above is more so for dirt jumping and urban. The hardrock is XC. Unless its the angle, I think this rig is running 26/24, definitley urban.

Oh yeah, forks is singular not plural (in this scenario). Correct term would be "Marzocchi Bomber Fork"

Actually, isn't or should I say wasn't Spooky a US company. Can't remember for sure, but either way, they went out of business about 2 years ago. That fork is about a '99 vintage. It may or may not be a good deal. Depends on how hard it was ridden and how much abuse it's taken. From the pics, it's a mix of good and bad (o.k., older, not necessarily bad). What cranks are those? What wheels/hub/rims?

Hard to tell without closeup shots. I definately check for cracks around the welds. If he'll let you, take apart the headset and see if the headtube is ovalized. (biggest problem with DJ frames). You'll know if the headset bearing cups come out of the frame with just arm strength.

I know the wheels are mavics... cant remember what sort... i dont know what hubs they are though... it doesnt mater now though... i got my new bike today :) Check Just got this today thread for more details on it

I wouldnt call the Hardrock or Rockhopper pure xc frames though. They are more into aggroxc/verylightFR. Stumpy is pure XC.

The 2001 Hardrock/ Rockhoppers were pure XC frames. In 2002 they changed the frame to a freeride/ light dh. The 2002/2003 has the sloping tube.

I got a 2003 frame rockhopper so ....:D LETS START THE BOMB RUN
