Now that it's getting cold my wife never wants to ride the tandem with me, so I made myself a friend. I took him to critical mass with me on Friday:

He had to wait outside when we stopped at the tea room. Apparently they don't serve "his kind" there.

It was still fun though, here's a video of us riding down some stairs in a shopping mall.

His knees kept bending the wrong way, but pedaled pretty well considering he is made of Huffys and has inner tubes for tendons.

:roflmao:
How does he stay clipped in?
I have to say, it does seem like an upgraded use for the Huffys.
Are you taking the buddy out for Halloween? You could give him a pumpkin head :p .

His "feet" are lashed to the pedals with innertubes. I have already devised an improved knee joint, but I haven't come up with a better way to attach his feet to the pedals. It would be pretty easy to use a pumpkin for a head, the handle bar head comes off really easily. I might just have to do that.

It's always difficult for a tandem rider when their stoker doesn't want to come along :(
During a boring meeting some time ago I sketched out a possible solution........

I think this would frighten horses!
Was this a petrol burning design? Biodiesel? Coal?
:roflmao:
I do like the optional whistle :) .

A steam powered robo-stoker would be the best thing in the history of ever. I want to subscribe to your newsletter.
awesomeness
That would be pretty cool. My guy may not help out much by pedaling but he has a water bottle cage and I strapped my bag to him, so he does have that going for him.

And remember, you can change heads in a flash :D .

Well it was a pretty boring meeting and I most probably wasn't thinking clearly by the time I did that sketch ;)
For fuel I thought that committee reports and minutes would be just the thing :D

Heck, just hot air coming out of the committee room would probably keep it running for days, if not weeks :p .

I tried to convine a friend of mine to strap a halloween plastic/foam skeleton to his tandem... he wouldn't do it :(
Maybe I'll see if I can borrow it next year.

This is a few years old, but it's appropriate for this post.
I'm in front & Herman is in back.

This video was taken during the day, but it looks REALLY awesome at night when I put my alias light under my seat and shine it up into his rib cage.

The steam stoker:

Technically, though, the "stoker" on a ship is the one shoveling coal in, so if you add a steam engine, you still need a stoker to fire the engine.

This year, he's just a yard decoration. I didn't get around to repairing last years riding damage. Maybe i'll get him going for a quick ride round the block in the next hour.
My 3 yr old kid and his costume took precidence this year.

You're a 3 year old only once--gotta make the most of it! At least Herman is still around being useful.
So was the costume bike related? If so...photos :p ?

By the way, kemmer--where were your photos taken? I've been trying to figure out if I recognise the spots.

Ahhh, it was a good ride again this year.
Here's Herman, all lit up, stationary, but lit up. I did take him for a ride, but the battery had died by that time, so the only video is of him stationary, sorry.

I'd like to add him to the stoker category, but he's more like dead weight than a stoker.
ehhhhe eheheheheheheheh (evil tales from the crypt laugh here).
