Bicycle Mechanics - Mr Tuffy- smoothing the ends?- 'cause his are SHARP!

Hope this hasn't been asked before, but here goes.

I have stopped using Mr Tuffy's because at least half of my flats have been caused by Mr Tuffy himself!:(
This is because at high inflation the blunt end of Mr T. wears a hole in my softer tube. Those of you who have used him will know the result! ;)
So how do you shape the end so it is smooooooooth? 'cause he just resists being manipulated and shaped. (even tried wringing the little blighter's neck!):D

The nice lady mechanic at the bike shop where I purchased my first pair of Tuffy liners showed me the trick. Take a cigarette lighter, or candle or whatever and GENTLY heat that cut edge at the end until it softens up and the sharp edge smoothes out. Works for me!

Along the same lines, has anyone used both Tuffies and Spin Skins (not together)? I am curious how they compare. Are Spin Skins worth the double or triple the price of Tuffies?

Cut the ends in a semi circle,and smooth off the edges with a grinding wheel or sandpaper...:thumbup:

SpinSkins - I am a product tester and the new duros are far superior to the Kevlar models. I have run over box staples and not gotten a flat. The duros are even much less expensive. Go for the duros, you will be VERY HAPPY!! http://www.warwickmills.com/01spinskins.html

Spinskins just disentegrate after awhile. I never got 1000-3000 miles (as they claim). No way maybe 500. They just come apart in pieces. Maybe they don't like Slime.

Too narrow also. Assumes stuff ain't going to come in the side. Maybe the Duros last better.

The normal tuffy together with Slime is enough (especially now that i learned what to do with the ends). Nothing will stop all real thorns except thickness+Kevlar IMHO, then slime for that occasional one coming through.

I would rather have the kevlar built in the tyre, like Specializied's Armadillo, a tuffy, and slime. This is for serious thorn country off road.
