This time let's make sure we get to the top. Meet me at the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge, near the statue of Joseph Strauss at 09:30. There are bathrooms and water there. Parking spaces are plentiful in the Presidio.

It will be an out and back of 40 miles.

Victor

Hey Vic, I'm in Fo Sho, I might split from the summit and go the back way out to Fairfax, for anyone who wants to follow. I've never done that backwards so I'm trying something new.

When you descend from Ridgecrest to Alpine Dam, it will really sink in how bumpy the road is and how tight some of those switchbacks are. Descending from Pine Mountain to the town of Fairfax is pretty fun, but after you reach the golf course, you really have to watch for cars crossing the yellow line, as the road gets very narrow in the residential section. With all the bike traffic coming up in the opposite direction, cars invariably swerve into the middle of the lane in their impatience to get around them. (i.e., the same thing that happened to msIncredible descending Panoramic.)

I'd be up for going that way though.

This sounds like fun. I've never ridden across the golden gate bridge... now I have a reason to.!! I'll see how my work schedule looks. Hopefully this is something I can get the time to do, I'd like to climb Tam so I can take it off the list.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been doing it the backside up for 20 plus years, thought it would be nice to mix it up. I'll keep my guard up,

I'm (provisionally) in, assuming it's Sunday the 18th, and not Saturday.

It's the weekend after my 50th birthday, and I think that would be a great way to celebrate! I'd probably drive to the start from San Mateo, and I can carry two other bikes/riders.

I don't know about uspspro pushing me up the hill. When we rode Kings Mtn together, he was waiting at the top!

If it was Sunday, the 11th, then I'd be in. The weekend after, I am on-call, so I wouldn't be able to make it for that. Oh well, I guess I'm out again.

I did a double-read when I first read it. Just didn't want to be the first, and possibly only, person to bring it up :).

When you think about it, there's know other way to put it.....
" I've never gone down that way?"
" Hard way up, easy to go down?"
" Never done it backwards?"

Hmm?

Going with the GF to Big Sur. Hiking is good cross training, right? ;)

We did a quick 35 mile ride the day before I did the Mt Tam ride :)

Anyway, I think one hike I have planned is over 10 miles. (To Sykes Hot Springs)

If you PM one of the moderators, they can probably change the title for you. Regarding the vote, I know that when you create a thread, you have the option of creating a poll ... however, I don't know how to do that once the thread is created. Maybe it's another moderator question?

One problem ... I don't know of a moderator for NorCal. However, I do know jschen in SoCal is a moderator.

so it sounds like most want Sunday, and the ones who can do Sat are flexible so let's just shoot for Sunday 9:30...Hey I'll be at Mikes in Sausalito so don't forget me:( I'm 75% sure that I'm going back via Fairfax so anybody is welcome to join.

Where is the statue? I have no idea where it is. If we did like last time, and I took the first Caltrain up, I remember we got to Mike's Bikes at around 9:45 am. Otherwise, can someone give me a google map of where the start is?

Hey John, even if it does rain a little I'm going to ride cause it should clear off. If I go out the door in the morning and it's pouring then that's a different story, I'll stay home and nap.

Ron the Statue is right at the South end of the bridge. There's a novelty store on the east side of the east parking lot, you can't miss the statue, you can always ask a tourista:) . you can always just ride over and meet me at the bike shop like last time, 9:45 is about right.

BF Mt Tam Riders:

If it's raining Saturday I won't be going. In that case I'll try again Sunday morning. If Saturday morning it's overcast but not raining I'll go and take my chances.

The meeting point is at the south side of the GG Bridge on the east side. Look for the snack bar, the gift shop, the cable and Mr Strauss.

The weather is uncertain so I'm thinking if we get an opportunity Saturday we should take it.

Alright so we're watching weather.. I'm actually watching my temperature at the moment, I've got some symptoms of the flu, but if things go as planned, I'll break the fever in the next few hours.. be sick as a dog all night and be able to ride in the morning. Hopefully, its worked before..

According to accuweather.com the rain will not hit Sausalito until night time Saturday. You guys should have some sunshine in the morning and then cloudy by afternoon Saturday.

You should just chill tomorrow, you might end up kicking your immune system down if you don't rest.

Why don't we get a penninsula ride sometime soon. I missed every ride for the last 3 months. Maybe we can dodge the weather late fall. I'm doing the Turkey ride Sat. after thanksgiving Morgan Territory/Diablo so don't make it that weekend. :)
