I am car free and wanted to let you all in on some cheap 26" slicks I grabbed at Academy, but may be sold elsewhere. Usually $9.74 US, now $3.99 US. I just couldn't wait for my tires to come in from pricepoint since I ride everywhere.

Bell brand(made in china) and I have put only 30 miles on them. Size is 26x1.90 holds 40-65 PSI

Makes a huge difference on my daily commute vs hybrid tires. I have yet to ride them in any rain.

Are they heavy? I have sometimes seen street tires at sporting goods places like that, but they are always super heavy. I tried a couple and was very unhappy with them. I have since gone with the cheap Forte slicks at Nashbar and Performance. Nothing special about them, but they are considerably lighter (and actual slicks, instead of merely milder tread), and about half the price. Or at least they were when I ordered them. I see they have gone up to about $12 now.

Up against Hybrid? whatever they are- tyres- these will be good. But if you want a better rolling tyre with less drag you have to go narrower and a lot more pressure. I Ride a Tandem with 26" and use a couple of tyres- Schwalbe Marathons in 1.4 and a cheap Continental in 1.3 Both these tyres are high pressure at 120psi and Roll superbly. The Schwalbes have done in excess of 2,000 miles and were changed due to carcase damage on the front and a well worn rear tyre. The Continentals were put on and they are faster- but no idea on life yet.

And neither tyre has lost grip in the Wet- On wet leaves and road grit yes but that would happen with any tyre.

One pet peeve I have is that Walmart sells similar tires to Academy, but they don't actually sell a 26x2.125" tire. It's got three or four different sizes on it; presumably, it's the smallest of the lot and will fit the others. Also, I'd like a "road" tread, not a slick, not a mountain bike tire, and those are harder to find. On the plus side, all the tires they sell are foldable, so you can carry a spare if so inclined.

I saw some cheap tires just like I wanted on Ebay a while back, and never could find them again to bid on them.
