Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The State of Georgia has agreed to fund the Tour de Georgia – for at least 2008, if not longer.

Amazingly, I searched the Atlanta Journal/ Constitution (ajc.com) and found no mention of this story.

All we need now is an SUV that will pull out into the competition at the most inappropriate time.
And a drought, forcing competitors to 'keep' their water bottles when they're in Atlanta territory rather than toss them to the side of the road - or shockingly, ration their water supply off during the ride.
Oh, wait, there is a problem (http://www.atlantawatershortage.com/) with water.... 3 months left, baby! Then they can all buy Dasani!!
Coke will save Atlanta! ugh.

Take shorter showers.
I like how they're mentioning the TdG in the same breath as The Masters. They realize the impact the event is having on the state of Georgia. Pretty heady stuff, really.

Does this mean women are not allowed?

Is this a joke? Cycling News is one of the most unreliable news services I've ever read. To make matters worse, they sponsor a team and some races. Which teams and races do you think will get covered?

If it's on the Internet, it must be true.
The above does not apply to your post :)

I’ve been able to come up with couple of sources to confirm the story:
TdG Official site (http://www.tourdegeorgia.com/)
Daily Peloton (http://www.dailypeloton.com/displayarticle.asp?pk=11928)
I’m still wondering why the Atlanta paper chose not to cover it – I know cycling is way down the list among sports but just as a state business story it would seem to have merit.

That's the bain of cycling. A newspaper will print a blurb about the new defensive coordinator hired at the University of Eastern West Texas State College for Women with Acne, but try finding out who won Worlds.
