I just moved from the Twin Cities to Madison WI, and I was wondering if there were any shops in the greater Madion area that were similar to the Hub/One on One, in that they have large amounts of used parts to go through. There seem to be tons of cyclists and bike shops around Madison, and CL is always OK, but I liked having somewhere I could go for a specific part without ordering it at full price.

Yellow Jersey, 2-3 blocks from the Capitol on State St is the place you want to go. They also have "new" old parts (ie vintage never used). I don't know anything about their pricing scheme. You also might want to check out Budget Bicycle on Regent St (various stores, pick the right one).

+1 on both Yellow Jersey (www.yellowjersey.org) and Budget Bicycle Center. You can also look at Freewheel (www.freewheelbikes.org)- it's a community bike co-op where you can put some work in for the value of what you take out. I would guess they'd have buckets of used parts to go through.

Welcome to Madison!

Now, I haven't been to YJ in years, and I always liked visiting their store when I was in the area (probably still would, kind of a 'must do'), but while looking at their webpage, yes, they do have the parts, but their prices seem high. They are friendly though. When I was looking for a new fork for my 61cm eBay frame, I emailed them and they found one, sending me a picture of it (held by a very pretty coed with more rings than she could fit on her fingers and ears - if you know what I mean. )

One of the coolest stores in the midwest, I must say. http://www.wtfda.info/images/smilies/cool.gif

Thanks - the last time I was in Yellow Jersey was years ago. The place was great, lots of stuff you just don't see that many places. My then gf, now wife, was with me, and she quickly got pretty sick of me geeking out at all the awsomeness. I remember what seemed like a huge stock of NOS stuff, but I didn't remember that many budget used parts. I'll stop by.

I didn't check out Budget b/c it looked too major-Trek-retail like, and I am looking for a place that is a little more wheel and deal. Nice to know that this is not necessarily the case. I'll definately give them a shot.

I like co-ops. I used to wrench at a shop in the Twin Cities, so I don't mind doing a little work.

Thanks again for the great tips.
