Commuting - Good news, good news, bad news, good news, good news

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yesterday's ride home was very interesting:

Good news: My new helmet came in. Already posted a separate thread on that.

Good news: LBS said my Surly Cross Check fork should be in today.

Bad news: Because of closing the shop for a couple of days to go to Interbike combined with a huge workload of service work for people readying their bikes for the local MS 150 October 6-7, they won't be able to install the new fork until the week after that. sniff. I would do it myself, but it will have to be cut to length and the new threadless headset installed. I am not equipped or ready to do that level job.

Good news: While getting ready to leave the bike shop, a young man asked about my Brooks saddle, in this case a Team Pro. He had ordered a B17. As you know, I have one of those, also. We had a long chat about bikes and commuting. He has a Bianchi single speed which is his sole transportation.

Good news: About 5 miles from home, I saw a guy on a BMX about a half mile ahead. Lost sight of him through some turns, but saw him again, closer, when I got on the bike path that is my 3.5 mile home stretch. Caught up when we got to a point where we had to lift our bikes over a newly dug trench that will eventually house temporary fencing, probably shutting off the path (damn it!) for ongoing construction. Anyway, we rode along for the next 3 miles or so and had a great chat about bikes. This young man (about 27) was very knowledgable about bikes. His BMX was spotless. He also has a '92 Trek road bike and another BMX.

All in all, a very interesting an enjoyable ride home.
Regards,
Raymond

All of that was good news. I love those kinda days!

It's kinda like the whole day was pre-planned. Just go with it. Enjoy it.

If you're on your bike and honest, nothing is an accident!
